Are the works current happening near Jewsons at the moment, the implementation of the results of the traffic study?

This happened to me while on a long break, I came back to find my car impounded with over £400 fines; however after 6 months of appealing a local councillor got everything sorted and refunded for me.

Enforcement were out at 10 am and the cars still parking on the pavement, even though parking bays were clearly marked where they were parked, got a ticket. Also there was a surprising number parked on double yellow lines and in the unintended gaps between sections of double lines, and they were ticketed too. 

With more of Wightman road having a clear central line down it indicating travel through pinch points it is now easier to navigate, however there are still some pillocks who try to take up the whole road or go too fast.

Yes, that SUV is a bit of an extreme example (!) - but those parking bays are very narrow. I have seen quite a few ordinary cars parking slightly on the pavement. I can imagine some drivers will be wary of trusting to park fully on the road if they want to avoid knocks. 

One of the points was to get the pavements clear of cars and I feel that if you own a car too wide for the parking space then this is your choice and is extremely inconsiderate.

Driving in London has become much more dificult with the arrival of wide cars; having them parked on one or on either side of the road means less road width for everyone else driving through and also for cyclists. It used to be easy for two cars to pass each other on most London roads now everyone has to find a gap to make way for the wider cars invariably driven by people who feel entitled to hold up the traffic, have no idea how to reverse, and can't themselves manage to get into a space to let anyone else through.  Moan over.

But Raleigh Rd was resurfaced a few months ago and when they repainted the  bays they were about 5 cm narrower than before. It's quite tricky to park legally now, even  with a Fiesta.

Strange that they should be narrower.

I don't know what the regulations are but I'd always thought that if the cars' wheels are outside of the box in any direction then you are liable, however the SUVs and other really wide modern cars are often up to a foot wider than the parking bay and seem to  have immunity from parking tickets.

Is there any word on when the works are to be completed? It appears they have given up at the top of Seymour (I've not seen workers there for at least a week), and it seems that the top of Allison is in a similar state with Hewitt not started.

I think that this whole discussion is ignoring the real losers on Wightman Road.  It’s the people who live there.  It is depressing that an opportunity has been missed to make Wightman a safe route for cycling but those travelling along it do so for a few minutes every day.  The people who live in Wightman and the roads feeding it live and breath there for 24 hours a day, every day of the year.  Surely the immediate priority has to be those who cannot even open their windows because of the filth and noise?

i want to see what the traffic looks like when the disruption from the works ends and what impact it has has on numbers and speed and then to have an opportunity to input into the promised review process.

By the way I’m typing this at 5:40am as an almost constant stream of cars and vans head up my road (Warham) like they do every single morning.  It will quiet down at about 9 and then start all over again at about 4

I agree Michael. I don't care who poisons me - whether local or passing through. Can you imagine what it must be like for those living in houses on the North Circular ? 

It's encouraging to see the increasing numbers of electrically-powered vehicles on the roads.

We should care whether traffic is local or passing through, so we can work out the most effective measures to reduce the various problems it causes.

You have my sympathies for the traffic volumes you get. I assume that when you moved in, the road was nothing like it is now.  Has any more been heard on the supposed Warham direction reversal?

When we moved here the route to Wood Green, Hornsey and Muswell Hill wasn’t signposted up my street from the junction of Salisbury Road and Green Lanes as it is now.  Not a dickie bird about the proposal to consult residents on the reversal of the traffic flow on Warham.
