Parking on the wrong side of the road
I understand that it is not illegal which is quite bizarre really but wonder if there is any way that it could be stopped. Does anyone know if there are any legal provisions the local authority could use to prevent this on environmental grounds?

If the local authority can't stop flagrant speeding on St Ann's Road ( which is illegal ) I don't think you have much hope.

There should be no parking on Green Lanes full stop. It's dangerous for cyclists and means buses have to weave in and out of the non-existent bus lane, creating congestion. It's something that's been pushed time and time again but for some reason the shops and restaurants on Green Lanes think that their customers are incapable of walking more than a few steps.

If you had no parking on the lanes, you will have created a 4 or 3 lane A road. I wouldn't walk near the edge of the pavement though.
Cars traveling 20-30 mph are quite scary when they pass that close
And forget sitting outside for a coffee (not that I do now)
Mind you, I suppose if you put in some cycle motorways either side of a two lane road we wouldn't be chewing So much Nox and it would certainly be quiter which would be great
What would you do with all the public/pay parking tho?

Once you've put in some cycle lanes and bus lanes it would be a lot narrower.
I do take your point though, there is the possibility that the current parking works as traffic calming on the road. I think there are probably enough cars pulling in and out to still do that though (although that would probably still cause issues with the bus and cycle lanes).

It's not the "wrong" side of the road because - as far as I know - it is perfectly legal (unlike, say, in the US).
Whether it is anti-social is another matter. There may however be the possibility of a bylaw being introduced or specific traffic order...
I am more struck (not literally - not yet anyway) by the sheer number of drivers who now do three-point turns on busy roads rather than driving off in the direction they are heading and taking a different route. It slows traffic down and causes a hazard too.
As for cyclists, you soon learn in London to expect anything, and everything, to happen!

In Australia and New Zealand it's not the parking on the wrong side of the road that's illegal it's the fact that the police are allowed to presume how you got there (unlike in Britain where you could have been lifted in by a crane) and they give you a very impressive ticket for "dangerous driving: driving on the wrong side of the road". Not sure how driving on the wrong side of the road can be innocent. As John says, in order to get your vehicle to that side of the road you will have to have driven on the wrong side (into oncoming traffic). Then add pulling out on the wrong side when moving away, with other road users and pedestrian not expecting a vehicle to be movingly in the wrong direction too. Sounds a fair cop to me.

Ha! Here in Bruce Grove we have people who consistently drive the 'wrong way' down one streets and park up in front of their home facing the 'wrong way' with TOTAL impunity!
When you ask the parking wardens they say they can't ticket. That's England for you!

Then there are the traders who park on their curtilage by driving over the pavement, which is an offense. But unless they are caught in the act of drinving on the pavement nothing can be done! Yes, a crane can lift their car into place! I give up! That's England for you.

Don't do it in Germany - you'll get a ticket. We like to keep our streets nice and tidy.. so all vehicles have to face the same way as the flow of traffic. It would be ludicrous (and dangerous - driving across oncoming traffic) to do otherwise, wouldn't it?
