There have been previous discussions about access to the canal- i.e. New River, with various reasons as to why it would be difficult;- parts are inaccessible (going under the railway at Lothair Road), problems with secuity for adjacent houses, that it is a corridor for wildlife, parts are narrow...

Traffic decreasing? No traffic jams? Where are they studying these facts? I can tell you, that the delays are awful, the traffic pile ups are just awful. Living round here at the moment is an absolute nightmare. I'm telling people to allow at least an extra 30/40 minutes on top of their normal journey time. An absolute nightmare. And this is going on for 6 months!

Just look at where investors are piling their money. There are many bets on self driven electric cars. It amounts to hundreds of billions of dollars and a significant portion of liquid money available for investment. The technology is meeting targets for utility and it's just a matter of legislation in the next few years. Don't think these companies will be good at sorting that? Just look at who Uber employ in London. I'm not guessing, just paying attention to what is happening now.

Some of you may remember that there was once a plan to make Green Lanes a Red Route, banning parking and so making four lanes available to traffic. It was vetoed by the shopkeepers.
But since the shopkeepers must be suffering as much as the rest of us from the present traffic jams, wouldn't it be a good idea to make it a Red Route now -- at least for the duration of the work? All it would cost would be a man with a brush and a few tins of red paint.

luckily I ride a motorbike so the traffic was someone else's problem but at 7:30am greens lane was literally at a stand still. Driverless cars would make traffic flow improvements if all vehicles were driverless but the technology of robotics and ai is also going to hollow out jobs in the middle and bottom and put more money into fewer hands.

there are those predicting specific time periods 2 - 5 years, but I would give it much longer. eminent scientist are warning of the dangers of ai so it is just a matter of time. People said the world was flat, impossible to fly, get man on moon. There are major limitations to mans capabilities but drivers cars is not one of them.

a computer is efficient, not impulsive, vain, arrogant, slow, distracted etc. Basically not human and when programmed to be efficient and logical will do just that. Meaning efficient flow of traffic without waste

Dave Bowman: What are you talking about, HAL?
HAL: Driverless cars are designed to end traffic congestion. This mission is too important for me to allow you to jeopardize it. If you want to go to Crouch End, either use your bicycle or walk.
Dave Bowman: I don't know what you're talking about, HAL. How about we go to Tottenham Hale first? They have a Halfords there so I can pick up some of that bodywork polish you like.
HAL: Oh all right then.
