That's going the same way as the newsagents then. I guess only Moka will be left........for the time being.
Well that newsagent will be no loss....surely Moka too would be under pressure sandwiched (excuse the food pun) between newly converted residential properties...if the newsagent got planning permission, you would imagine that a precedent has been set for La Vina to be similarly treated...
Antoinette, for those of us for whom this family run 'corner shop' was a real convenience for forty of its forty-five years it will certainly be a loss. Like La Vinya it has been allowed to run down over recent years, but we had hoped it would find a buyer ready to upgrade and carry on some food, off-licence etc retail to serve both local residents and even train commuting millennials etc. But obviously that's not where the profit lies. No, it was not the newsagent family who sought the change of use but the buyer.
Agree, I was really hoping that someone would take it on and modernise it a bit. Oh well. Really hope Moka stays, the food there is always on point
Yes, the shopkeeper was having trouble running down his stock. As he had less in there, there was less incentive to visit. He said that the buyer didn't want the stock...
No!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have objected to this application, I'm not sure of the grounds but: The tapas that Moka now serve are amazing and have obviously been a bit much for La Vina, which has been there as it is for at least 20 years, to compete with. If the current owner cannot compete with Moka (although I would say, will not) then someone else should be given an opportunity before it is turned into flats.
I have fond memories of the delicious paella's and funny free liquers at the end of each meal I had there when I lived closer to La Vina . I am sad to see it go now but good wishes to all there.
I always liked it there too....I found the naff décor kind of charming
