Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Only a small thing to complain about, but the postman always shoves things through my letterbox by bending them in half - birthday and Xmas cards included. Presumably it's because they are in a rush, but it's not very nice to receive a load of bent cards. They never used to do this and I have had the same letterbox for 20 years.

And yes I have mentioned it to them, but we don't seem to have a dedicated postie any more - someone who knew where everyone lived and had time for a little interaction. My last regular postman, a nice chap from the North East who ran the whole route in shorts no matter the weather, told me that the job has become awful now.

Old joke, but I still like it -

PHOTOGRAPHS DO NOT BEND

" Oh yes, they do "

Exactly the same - it's really sad when people have taken the trouble to send a nice card and then it turns up bent in half so it's ruined

As Matt reports today, soon the Crown Post Office will also be bent in half and squeezed onto Maqsood's counter, between the Lottery tickets and the Western Union remittance dispenser. Their Quality Pre-bent Cards may allow space for the Stationary queues.

I definitely have a regular postie. He consistently ignores my opt out and gives me two of every piece of Royal Mail-delivered junk mail.

It's all part and parcel of life these days where everything's privatised and outsourced, workers have no time to do their jobs properly, and public services are run solely for profit. Maybe one should try as one gets older not to talk incessantly about the good old days but people of my age know exactly when Britain changed irrevocably for the worse. The Grantham Bitch changed everything. From then on health, education, housing, care, legal aid, probation were all on a downward spiral. She still dominates the landscape. The Brexit tossers that run this country are her direct successors- mean spirited, grubby little incompetents and buffoons. But we let them. Not enough of us care. Voting Conservative is an act of moral bankruptcy. That we voted to leave Europe and regard Jeremy Corbyn as unelectable shows how degraded Britain has become.

Oh that feels better. I'll have some breakfast now .

The Labour Governments post 1997 had 13 years to reverse or mitigate  the " downward spiral ".

Did they ?

No of course they didn't. They were led for the most of that time by a closet Tory known to the world as Tony Blair, known to me as the Archtraitor. First he betrayed his Party, then he betrayed his country by backing foreign powers in Iraq, and finally he even seems to have betrayed his paymaster (Rupert) by having an affair with the wife (Wendy).

This is getting a bit off-topic?  Relevant fact: the first attempt to part-privatise Royal Mail was made by Peter Mandelson in 2008-09, I'd forgotten that.

PS to John D, very off-topic: the average speed cameras on the A102 and A2 have now been activated.....

It's probably to do with the post all being separated and sorted into piles and in elastic bands...  If you are at the end of the pile in a band the post is already starting to curl and bend so they probably just fold it rather than straighten it out.  If you see what I mean, not an excuse but could be a reason...  Is upsetting, I love sending cards so would hate to think they arrived all bent!

I think it's about speed - they need to use two hands to get things through without bending, whereas a folded pile can be shoved through one handed.

The past year or so is the first time this has started happening - they've had the rubber bands system for ages as my son used to gather them up and make them into a huge ball.

Ever thought of putting up an easily accessable post box?

Occasionally I door to door distribute community leaflets and some post slots are beastly to get things into.I don't envy the posties.
