Petition: Prevent Donald Trump making a state visit to the United Kingdom

https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/171928

I would have worded the petition differently along the lines that it is not appropriate for a rascist, mysoginist, liar etc.. to visit the UK.

The petition is already large enough to trigger a discussion in Parliament however the more signatures the better to underline opposition to the policies of this odious man and his like.

Thanks maggie, have signed however more on principal than anything because, now that the invitation has been made public obviously it won't be rescinded. In Brexit world it appears this government is desperate to talk to anyone for trade including selling military hardware to Erdoğan.

For those interested the petition reads;

Donald Trump should be allowed to enter the UK in his capacity as head of the US Government, but he should not be invited to make an official State Visit because it would cause embarrassment to Her Majesty the Queen.

I'm really not too worried about embarrassing the Queen however it is a vehicle for dissent and to get the government to acknowledge that Trump is 'unpleasant', even Prince Charles wants to bend his ear on climate change.

I agree that the government will now chase after even the most vile states to do busines with including selling arms, and Erdogan is the pits.

I'm also concerned that in the post Brexit world, when EU safeguards will be jetisoned, we will be so anxious to sign trade deals with the US that we will be forced to accept the import of substandard food etc (hormone beef, chlorine chicken etc). Despite denials the NHS will not be off limits to US insurance and medical trade deals as this 'market' is worth a fortune.

Yes agree re food standards. The States will push for genetically modified food trade.

Quote; Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said the visit should not happen while the executive order (against immigrants) was in place.

Well, if he does come I'm sure we can all give him a lovely warm welcome, as only Londoners know how.

Petition now at 700,000!! One of the fastest growing petitions ever.

According to a bloke on Twitter "currently more people have signed the petition against Trump's state visit in Hornsey & Wood Green than anywhere else in the country" You can check here here.

I followed the link from here and whilst reading the text was taken by how quickly the number of signatories is climbing. Here is a real-time video screen cap I made starting at about 10:00 on Sunday 29th Jan. It shows the numbers spinning every 10 seconds. the total is now approaching 00:30 and the total is above 860,000.

(Of course, right now you can see the numbers spinning for real on the link given in the original post!)

If anyone's wondering, the petition a year ago asking that Trump be banned from entering the UK reached 586,000.

And the one that the BBC reinstate Jeremy Clarkson reached 1,064,640.

Signatures on the petition for the UK Government site have to accompanied by a post code and are verified by reply through an e mail address making it inaccessible to citizens from outside the UK and difficult to duplicate votes.

The Clarkson petition was through 'Change.org' and was open to votes world wide, and he has a huge audience abroad, with no verification at all.

Here's a link to a BBC analysis of the highest number and percentage of signatories by constituency, as of 10.00 today:  http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-38796357

Inner north and east London constituencies, including Horney & Wood Green, form six of the ten most opposed.

And I included Clarkson as a number comparison only!

Interesting analysis. People are signing this petition 5 times faster than any other. The top number at 4.5 million was for a 2nd referendum  Now at 1,243,496 and climbing at 150 every 10 seconds.

There will be a demonstration outside Downing Street tonight at 6 pm (Monday 30th) to show solidarity with those affected by Trumps ban and showing support to demonstrations in the US against Trumps odious policies.
