Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Not sure if anyone saw this on the BBC website today. A hidden corner of Ally Pally whose walls we have all gone past, but possibly never known what lay behind.

I knew that !

Super cool.  A really good looking space.

Yes been around it, it's incredible, particularly the huge space underneath the stage. What the video fails to mention is they will be taking out the current slope to the floor and making it level, so they can hold corporate type events in the space as well ... pay its way etc.

Which means it won't be much use as a theatre. The sight-lines were poor anyway. The original architect had never done a theatre before

The plan is to utilize retractable seating.

Did you know that the Council donated £6.8m to this project though? Do you know who will be permanently based there - if effect, who just got a massive public subsidy?

Does the Council spread these subsidies equally throughout the borough according to significance or is Ally Pally alone getting them?

Not surprised. It seems that grants go to those in the loop.

The worrying thing is Haringey piles loopy amounts of money into ill considered ventures that do not generate much revenue. You know like making the building a hybrid between a theatre and corporate entertaining, neither one thing nor the other.  So it wont be a good theater or corporate venue.

Thank you for posting. I grew up in Harringay and Ally Pally was part of my youth and some of my later years.

  Ta again.  Roy.
