Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Info for Harringay Station, Great Northern upgrade consultation
Has anyone managed to navigate the labyrinth that is the thamesrailway.com website to find out exactly what changes are planned to services via Harringay Station come 2018? Trying to find out whether it'll be easier or harder to get to/from Winchmore Hill every day... thanks, Kit

From May 2018
In conjunction with the new trains and increased capacity, there will also be additional peak and off peak train services to and from Moorgate, increasing the frequency on the route creating a truly metro style service.- Extra peak services to/from Moorgate to ease overcrowding – up to 14 trains per hour (tph) will operate in the high peak period (up from 12tph today). Across the remaining peak hours trains will run more frequently – up to 12tph (currently 10tph). Additional services will run to Gordon Hill and Hertford North.
- Hertford North: Off peak frequency is proposed to double from 3tph to 6tph all day, Monday to Saturday and from 2tph to 4tph on Sundays
- Hertford North to Stevenage: Off peak frequency will increase to/from Moorgate from 1tph to 2tph all day, all week
- Welwyn Garden City: Off peak and Saturday frequency will increase from 3tph (weekdays) and 2tph (weekends) to 4tph all day, all week
So it looks as though Winchmore Hill will do particularly well out of the frequency increases on the Hertford North branch. However, whether all those trains will call at Harringay in the rush hours is not stated - of course, some do not currently call during the peak hours (and yes, I've ended up at Alexandra Palace a few times.....).

Wasn't there going to be a problem with the length of the platforms at Hornsey and Harringay? The new trains will also be longer, no?

Some will, some won't.
The replacements for the current Moorgate trains will be six carriages long since that's the max platform length at Moorgate through to Highbury & Islington and that's that, underground platform lengthening is impossibly expensive. There will be more trains hence the possible service upgrade in the consultation.
The new extra trains to Cambridge and Peterborough won't call at H & H, so it'll still be a change at Finsbury Park or Potters Bar to go north. Yes they'll be 8 or 12 carriages long. Those platforms could be extended, but extra station calls would slow up the trains, so it'll be business as almost usual with a few extra metro services.

Does anyone know about the proposed extension of the Great Northern route from Cambridge and Peterborough to Brighton via Finsbury Park is to start? I'm assuming that it is 2018 when London Bridge is reconnected via St Pancras?

Is there any clarity on how many of these will stop at Harringay? I'm assuming they will all stop at Finsbury Park though.

None, they'll all be 8-12 carriage trains which won't stop at Harringay - but they will stop at FP and maybe Alexandra Palace.
Harringay will get the slightly improved service mentioned above, along with benefiting from lovely new trains.
Has anyone noticed that the franchisee's promise that Harringay would be staffed during all opening hours has fallen by the wayside?

Well, mostly - the staffed booking office hours haven't increased but there was a security staff presence during opening hours to begin with. I see that the waiting room is now locked out of service outside the booking office hours, which rather confirms it.
Also noticed: in the last week handwritten notices have gone up by the Oystercard readers urging passengers to check that their train has not been cancelled before they touch in. At least someone is thinking of the passengers, even unofficially!

I don't suppose the Cambridge/Peterborough trains will stop at Harringay, any more than they do now. Since the Hertford/WGC services are described as 'Metro', I would assume that all of those will - giving a train every five minutes. What a change from the 1960s, when (off peak) there was one an hour to Kings Cross and another one each hour (unevenly spaced) to Finsbury Park!

Hi has everyone replied to the Phase 2 consultation on the 2018 timetable from Great Northern which ends 27th July 2017. It's on transforming rail.com
Im assuming the more of us that reply, the more likely that trains will stop at Harringay and Hornsey from next year.
I've just moved to the area and don't really understand why trains can stop at ali Pali but not these stops also. If the platforms are too short, they can just get certain doors to open.
It seems like a good way to increase the train frequency from these two stops without costing lots in more trains and drivers.
Hope everyone can spare a few minutes to write this in their survey
