Chatting with Wightman Road Grocery store owner Ajit Patel at the weekend, I learned that the Wightman Road story made the front page of Ham & High Broadway last week.
Ajit told me that his business has been affected by the road's closure. "Whereas before people would stop at the shop as they drive to and from work, now we don't get any of that".
Ajit went on to tell me that their plans to sell the shop are being brought forward as a result.
Ajit also passed on some interesting information of which I had been unaware. Apparently the parking suspension referred to in the article relates to a strip on Wightman opposite Umfreville and at the top of Burgoyne. These spaces have been suspended in response to a request from Jewsons to allow their lories to make the turns at the top of Umfreville and into Burgoyne.

Interesting you make this point. I had the same thought - particularly when I saw the garage complaining. I've tried twice to use them for repairs and both times it wasn't successful- not in terms of competency, as they actually didn't do any work in the end- but in terms of customer service as they were frustrating and ultimately unfruitful experiences.
I have been consciously trying to use my local corner shop on wightman (north end) a bit more and am about to book in to get my car serviced at the 'other' garage on wightman (in the middle).
It seems to me the garages should have quite a bit of trade from local residents- maybe they could try leaflet drop or similar to remind us all they're there- that would be a good use of compensation type funding? Generate future trade loyalty etc.
It occured to me also about Moka and La Vina. Perhaps we should cash mob our local favourites- it would be a shame to see Moka in particular go?
I was a bit surprised to see George the tailor mentioned in the article. He is a serious bespoke tailor and should not be dependent on passing trade I would have thought. He made a suit when I got married X years ago and I have noticed his name often pops up in discussions/articles about where to get a good suit made in London (with non-Saville Row prices). eg : http://modculture.org/index.php?topic=1815.0
Please can we clarify which garage we are talking about ? There are four garages on Wightman.
For what it's worth, I've been using G&N garage for 15 years and never had to complain about them.
I don't think G&N sell cars.
I stopped going to MK & Sons after the third time an Alsatian jumped over the counter and started barking in my face.
It would be really good if Sparkle and Maria would tell us which garage they are talking about.
