I'm just wondering how other people browse this board. I've always found it very difficult to use as the threaded nature means that new posts can appear anywhere in a discussion which is pretty difficult with a multi-page discussion where the most recent posts appear halfway through the total posts.
As such, I only really look at the last few posts on the front page (although even clicking on those is no guarantee I'll read them as you get taken to the front page of a discussion rather than where the post is).
Am I missing something, is there an easy way to use this board?

It's a fair comment Andrew. We tried the flat style and people didn't like it. I can't remember why now. I'll see if I can unearth the conversation from that time.
If you want to go to a new comment from the Latest Activity panel, click on "replied".

My word! Didn't OAE have a knack of keeping to the point in his green and salad days? Thanks too, Hugh, for recalling his Latin jousts with David Schmidt. I'm missing (excuse my ''I'm loving it" aberration) David in recent times.
I suppose it's not immediately evident. I used to add help pages (which you can access from the menu in the grey strip at the bottom of any page), but I'm not sure if I ever covered this particular tip.
Funny. I was thinking about this the other day- as I clearly have too much time on my hands. Hugh, you and I have talked about this previously, but the ideal situation would be that there is some way to see lead you to all new comments, but I think you said that this the limitation we have with a free service and a 'cheap' platform.
As Andrew says, its hard not to just look at the last comments- and the risk is you miss a discussion elsewhere.
The cost to run a new network with our hosts for the size of community that HoL has grown to is £900 a year. I had an email discussion recently with a techie about transiting the site and its history to another platform and it's a few thousand quid. I'd like to do that and wrest control back from California, but I'm not convinced I'm loving the idea idea of spending a few thousand on it.
Sure Hugh, no criticism intended, it was also to flag the fact things like this cost money and this is a free service.
Out of interest, have you thought about how this may be paid for, some sort of crowd funding exercise? Not sure how many people ever use the 'Support Us' link to the bottom right of the page. I know it has been a while for me...
Question: would you get the functionality you want to see for the cost?
