Despite my best efforts to keep it open by being a regular customer, Green Lanes offie Deniz 's owner has finally made good on his threat to sell up and retire. The shutters are down and my weekly trip there to stock up for the weekend with craft beer and cider and random bottles of wine based on whether I like the label is a thing of the past.
All is not lost however! Wandering into News and Mags next door, I spotted that they have stocked up with bottles of wine and [THE GOOD NEWS] some bottles of interesting beer in the fridge. I asked them about Deniz and they said they had bought the shop and were considering their plans for it.
Sorry to see Deniz shut - the guys in there were friendly and keen to supply me with all my drinking needs, however if News and Mags continue to stock London craft beers there's a little glimmer of a silver lining to this story.

That's the place with what I think may the only original tiled Victorian shop floor on the Harringay stretch of Green Lanes (pubs excluded). Picture here. I hope the new owners don't trash it.
I suppose it depends what they plan to do. If they remain a shop, no reason why they should but I guess we'll have to wait and see.
I remember the guys at Deniz telling me they were upset that the Council had allowed another shop so close to them, i.e. next door, to operate as an off licence, i.e. direct competition.
Shame. I liked shopping for beer there.
Hi Liz.
Thanks for the news about the off licence.
However, health and safety issues lead me to caution you about your frequent drinking of cider, beer and wine. Don't let alcohol fool you into thinking you need it to feel good. Can you have a good weekend without it?
It's okay, Liz was amused - as I'm sure is anyone who knows her (and not in a nasty way!).
