Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Just had a card through the door as we were out when something was delivered. On the back, it says our delivery office is moving from tottenham lane to station rd, N19. I live on Hewitt, N8.

Has anyone else heard about the move or know why this is happening? It's the first I've heard about it and am really disappointed as it is miles away from us. I'm really hoping I've got the wrong end of the stick but the flyer seems pretty clear.

It is a 56 minute walk according to google maps, which will mean almost a two hour round trip to pick up missed post in future.

I'm afraid this hit all our neighbours in Harringay N4 a year or so ago when the depot they went to in the Arena was sold. From what I remember hearing it is indeed a right old schlep, and hard to do on public transport too. At that point the Hornsey depot was under threat but was saved - anyone remember the history?
I do remember it happening to N4 and thinking it sounded like a real pain. Did any councillors get involved?

Wasn't aware Hornsey was closing, so would love to hear from anyone with more info.

Not sure about councillors but Lynne Featherstone organised protest 6 months or more ago when it was first raised, then they basically reassured her that there was no change until they suddenly made the closure announcement. More protests and another petition but Royal Mail don't care about local people, especially those with no car/disabilities, who will indeed need more than 2 hours to collect a parcel from next week onwards. That's privatisation for you. They did promise to "trial" a re-delivery service before 8 or 9 in the morning - as the problem with current system is that they re-deliver at normal round time so if you work you won't be there - but haven't heard anything since, so expect that's another untruth aimed at mollifying their "customers". You cannot specify a re-delivery time, or even date, but they kindly allow you to pay to have it re-delivered to a local post-office. But it takes a few days. Or you can have it re-delivered to another address, but must be within same N8 or N4 postcode. Best advice is to avoid using Royal Mail wherever possible!

Do you know which councillor to contact for matters like this? I know it's probably a hopeless situation but it seems ridiculous for people to have to make such a long journey for their mail.

So am I right I thinking that the Hornsey office is closing altogether?

Yes.

Thanks Bethany. I can't believe I completely missed this thread!

I think there might have been another one as well, but I can't find it now.  Possibly a little earlier.

There have been quite a few, starting in October 2012.

There was another, untagged, one in January 2014: - link.

Hugo Read has mapped the walk from Upper Holloway Overground station on Holloway Road, through Whittington Park, to the Tufnell Park sorting office. As he says, you might need a printout of the map the first time you do it, but it's the least worst option if you're carless in Harringay.

Phone number for that delivery office is 08456 112349.

Where/what is a "Bricks and Mortar" shop?

Where: on a High Street (stereotypically) rather than shopping online.

What: an endangered species.
