Hi,
I know this has been discussed in an earlier blog from 2013 but just wanted to see if anyone could give us an update.
We are in the process of purchasing a house on Warham Road and I read about train noise affecting Warham Road. Is this still the case? If so, how bad is it? The house is just a few houses down from Wightman Rd. We have a little baby girl and would prefer a quiet environment esp at night.
So any insights/comments/updates would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks
Dominik

I'm towards the top of Hewitt and so higher than at the top of Warham. Whilst not professing to understand the physics of sound waves, I'd have thought that would mean we're less protected than at the top of Warham by the barrier formed by the houses on Wightman. Whilst we're occasionally aware of trains, be it watching the plumes of smoke from one of the passing steam trains, or hearing some everyday train noise, it's very distant and has never bothered us in many years of living here. The other discussion you picked up on was mainly concerning people on Wightman backing on to the the line. I see that one person in Warham was affected, but, as far as I know that's a very rare case. Maybe try knocking on a few of your soon to be neighbours' doors. I'll flag this post to a couple of people I know who live at the top of Warham.
Fantastic. Thanks a lot Hugh. Really appreciate it. Wightman Rd I understand given the proximity, but the one comment on Warham really started to worry me. We didn't notice anything when we looked at the property the first time. But then it was on a Saturday late morning and we didn't know there was a train track nearby.
Many thanks again
Dominik
If you walk along Wightman, between Hewitt and Allison, you can access the New River path which skirts along the railway as far as Hornsey station. (BTW, it continues south and north but access is interrupted through the Ladder and through Hornsey).
We live towards the top end of Warham. If it is a very still night you can occasionally hear a train. Even then it is generally only a slow moving service train or maybe freight. It really isn't an issue.
I live on Wightman Road and back onto the train tracks and don't find the noise a problem. Before we bought I'd read similar things on here about noise but we've never really noticed it. Yes, you hear the rumbling of trains but it's just in the background. I wouldn't have thought you'd notice it on Warham Road at all.
Hi Dominik. We live right at the top of Warham and you can occasionally hear a distant train noise on a still night but nothing obtrusive. BTW - say hello when you move in as it sounds like we'll be neighbours - nice bunch of people on the road.
Living nearer the bottom of Warham I rarely hear train noises though occasionally on a dark, cold, night when the moon is full, and the wind is gusting in an easterly direction a distant whistle and clanking drifts into my consciousness.
I do get the sound of the Piccadilly line however as the noise of the approaching tube trains gently builds to a low rumble with the clinking of couplings and the occasional screech of brakes before fading away into the distance.
