Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Pemberton Play Street: 2-5pm Sunday 20th July
We will holding a Play Street on Pemberton tomorrow between 2-5pm. You are welcome to come along and bring the kids to play safely in a car free zone.
PS- Please remember to look after you kids, their safety is our concern, but your responsibility!

Also, I believe Pemberton Road was there long before any car ever drove down it.
I live on Pemberton Road and don't have any kids. I love the Playstreet and think it should be on every Sunday.

Walking round Millbank the other day I was delighted to see that play streets are not a new phenomenon (nor indeed a middle class one ;) ) - this gorgeous poster shows a London play street from the 1940s - apparently this one was permanent judging by the signage. So it seems that cars have been giving way to children for quite a while and living to tell the tale

In the late 60s- early 70s locals campaigned for a play street near Westbourne Grove W11, this was a longtime before the gentrification. Initially children put barricades across and vetted the cars for access before it was officially recognised and signed as an official playstreet. It remains so to this day

What a miserable so and so! Drive down one of the other streets if you can't bear the indignity of driving slowly for a few minutes. Or leave your car on one of the adjacent roads when Playstreet is on. It seems, though, that if you weren't moaning about this you'd be moaning about something else.
I like looking out of the window at the kids when Playstreet is on and seeing all the happy children whizzing about on their scooters and hearing them laugh. There needs to be more of this kind of thing, the world shouldn't have to revolve around angry people in cars needing to get somewhere a few minutes quicker. If it upsets a few spiteful old curmudgeons like yourself in order to allow this to happen for what is actually only a few hours once a month then I think it is a price worth paying.
There are plenty of bad things going on in this area that people really should be getting on their high horse about. Leave the kids alone and go pick on someone your own size!!!

If I keep my car on the road I have to pay for a tax disc, even if it doesn't have an engine - which disposes of the emissions argument.
If my car is kept off road in a garage I still have to tax it; or I can declare SORN in which case I don't have to pay the tax. ( SORN by the way, is Statutory Off-Road Notice ) which rather implies that the tax disc is a tax to keep it on the road, wouldn't you say ?

Parents don't have any right to close the public road of their own volition, but if they apply to the council and the council gives permission and are provided with a legal document explaining their right to close the road then you have to abide with that ruling. The council also require that the road closure is properly supervised which includes the volunteers wearing high-visibility vest for health and safety reasons. But hey, rant loud and rant long through the fog of your ignorance. We all love you.

Tell you what, why not get hold of a scooter or a skateboard and have a go at whizzing down the middle of Pemberton Road, it would do you the world of good.

Any numpty should be able to answer that question. It is because the school is private property, look it up. Entry to school grounds requires the permission of the headmaster. Most schools will look to monetise this aspect, such as the school renting the playground to the Market every Sunday or allowing clubs or churches parking facilities for a fee. Otherwise the gates are kept locked to prevent the risk of vandalism/theft from school property. Access is managed by the caretaker, who is often paid overtime for these extracurricular activities.

I wish Playstreet was all day every Sunday actually. I hope that will happen in future.

It probably didn't occur to you because you were too busy foaming at the mouth, and raging at the world to have time for coherent thought. With so much time on your hand, you could start the ball rolling and approach the head about hiring the playground. Your largess would be much appreciated and you would be able to sleep smugly in the knowledge that you have cleared the roads for YOUR car. Paying for things should give you a greater sense of entitlement and legitimacy, don't you think?

Next you will be demanding that PLAYGROUNDS ARE FOR CARS. Maybe all your ranting and shouting in caps has confused you, especially as you seem to think that everyone on the Ladder is one homogenous mass or is that just that inner bigot peeking out?
