Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Not an obscure racial reference.....but normally the back gardens of our area are home to a fair number of what was the ubiquitous cabbage white butterflies. This year I have seen some less common varieties but as yet not a single cabbage white? Any lepidopterists out there got any ideas? Heavy rainfall in spring? conditions last year? Of course some people will have seen SOME cabbage whites, but there is unquestionably a dearth. I know the wet weather has kept bee numbers down but my naturish garden now has quite a few bees, hoverflies and the like buzzing about.........

"Not an obscure racial reference.." what a bizarre thing to say. But you do pose a good question. Not seen any for ages. There is, though, a butterfly dome at Clissold Park, which is now opening (& buzzing). Take flight!

Is it open yet?

Yes--see HERE

Haringey Council should look to Hackney- Clissold Park is amazing. Bruce Castle has so much potential. I'm sure Liz would agree?

We've been pretty much butterfly free this year despite planting to attract them.

So far this year my brassicas have been blissfully free of cabbage whites.  Two years ago the damn things got inside the nets over the plants!  I don't know what drives their comings and goings.

"Where are the Cabbage Whites?"

In our garden in Colina Road, mostly. The nasturtiums and stocks are a bit of an attraction for them it seems...

Here is a couple that arrived chez moi today.  One on a turnip top and the other on the nasturtiums.
