Look to the skies!
There are great views of Jupiter this week as it reaches what is (I understand) an elevation in the night skies it achieves only every 12 years.
The largest planet in the solar system is a massive ball of gas with two prominent rings and four - four! - moons.
The planet, the moons and even the rings are visible even with a small scope or even binoculars (although with anything less than 10x magnification I believe you will struggle to make out the rings).
The planet rises in the south after dark and can be found high above Orion's eye.
This is a fabulous chance to spot an amazing planet rarely seen so easily from London. Get the bins out... You won't regret it!

Philip, you could always try the Observatory at hampstead. Its free to all, you just turn up on a clear Friday or Saturday night from 8-10 pm. http://www.hampsteadheath.net/observatory.html www.hampsteadscience.ac.uk/astro/observatory.html There are friendly volunteers who explain the night sky and help viewing through the telescope.
