Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

It looks like something serious happened in or just outside the Salisbury pub this evening. Police are there, the pub is closed and a police forensics tent is outside on the St Anne's rd entrance. Up the road people say there was a stabbing. Anyone know anything?

Note from site admin: As this incident had nothing to do with the pub, we have changed the title of the original post to be more accurate.

From what I have been told by someone who spoke to three different people who separately witnessed & who "knew" the deceased:-

An east European man drinking in the pub recognised a man who was in a gang of three men who had mugged him some time ago.  He apparently called his friend and they both confronted the man.  When the deceased recognised the person he mugged, he ran/chased out of the pub.  Either in or out of the pub he was hit with a bottle which was smashed over his head or neck.

He died on the way to hospital, not in the pub.  Still, very sad that a man has died.

This is why i believe that the salisbury is shut, so forensics can go over the place and do a reconstruction, check out the cctv etc.

The official report begs to differ on the 'died' on the way to hospital. He was taken to North Mid but transferred to the Royal London because of the nature of his injuries and the police were called by hospital staff. He was pronounced dead at 9pm some 2 hours after he arrived at the North Mid at 7 therefore this incident took place around 6.30ish?

Let us hope these three different people who spoke to 'someone' have given their witness statements to the police. I think it would be better to await the official reports before posting online. There is an ongoing investigation and people need to be careful about what they share publicly before the police do.

Very good point. I am only going by what the locals at the bottom of Seymour have told my neighbour.

All the best.

Salisbury Landlord, Dave Lewis, has just called me and asked me to point out that his understanding of what happened is very different to the story told by Paul.

Apparently, the incident began elsewhere. The fact that the stabbing happened outside the Salisbury was just chance. Dave says that the incident neither started in the pub, nor, as far as he is aware, were any of those involved customers in the pub. He has heard a very different set of circumstances around what led to the incident.

The reason that the pub is closed is because the police believe that the pub CCTV may have caught some useful evidence.

As soon as he is able, Dave will share more of the details.

Thanks Hugh.  A valuable lesson. I shall refrain from listening to the usual tittle-tattle from the neighbours, and go into the pub one evening for a sly jar and hear it from Dave Lewis directly.

Many thanks

Is the pub likely to be open this eve?
I can't understand this levity. Someone was killed at the end of my street. I really hope no one who knows this person has been following some of the remarks here. Can we get a grip. Someone died. Clever talk and bon mots about something less awful please.

Dave just called. The Salisbury is open tonight from 7:30!!

Great! Thanks Hugh

The Chav side discussion has been moved to a separate thread.

victim named

The Metropolitan police tonight named the victim and appealed for witnesses to the murder last Wednesday.

This is a copy of the Met's press statement.

"Detectives continue to appeal for information and witnesses following the murder of a man in Haringey.

Police were called at around 19:00hrs on Wednesday, 11 September, to the North Middlesex Hospital where a man had attended suffering serious stab injuries. He had been driven to hospital in a private vehicle.

The 44-year-old man was transferred to the Royal London Hospital where he was pronounced dead later on Wednesday evening.

Formal identification has now taken place and the deceased can be confirmed as Rodney Adams of Tottenham.

Next of kin have been informed.

A post-mortem examination held at Haringey Mortuary gave cause of death as a stab wound.

Officers believe the stabbing occurred in the vicinity of St Ann's Road at the junction with Green Lanes in N15.

An incident room has opened under Detective Chief Inspector Tim Duffield of the Homicide & Major Crime Command.

DCI Tim Duffield said: "We are appealing for anyone with information in connection with this murder, or who was in the area of Green Lanes to contact us. Your calls will be treated in confidence."

Anyone with information about the incident should call the incident room on 020 8358 0400. Alternatively, to remain anonymous, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

A 42-year-old man who was arrested on Thursday, 12 September, on suspicion of murder, has been bailed until late September pending further enquiries."
