So I was dropped past the Arena Shopping centre today. A luxury, but we'd just taken the dog to the Vet and my partner wanted to pick up some stuff from Sainsburys. Leaving the car park we ended up behind a car that then parked on Umfreville road. The Greenlanes end of Umfreville. I'm not usually a pollution nazi, but c'mon. The time taken sitting in the queue to leave the carpark would surely be comparable to driving. Are we that lazy as a society? I thought the one mile drive from the Top of Beresford to Sainsbury's was a little lazy.
The expression " pollution nazi " is demeaning to environmentalists. Or to Germans. Or to polluters. Or it could just be a harmless colourful phrase.
I suppose we're not allowed to get legless in the pub these days ?
I did think that was the idea behind shows like "The Last Leg" on Channel 4. I thought it was suppose to break down barriers. A sort of paralympic legacy to break down the overly P.C. Brigade.
The expression " pollution nazi " is demeaning to environmentalists.
Or even to clean living, law abiding, Nuremberg rallying, lebensraum seeking Nazis.
Hi Adrian
I wasn't offended. I was trying to show, by reductio ad absurdum, how ridiculous it is to get upset about phrases such as " learning difficulties " when it's obvious from the context that no disrespect is intended.
BTW, in your first line it should be " its " not " it's "
Sieg Heil !
I love the show 'The Last Leg' and hate over the top PC stuff and have no issues with banter between friends especially if it is Aussie v NZ. There just is a major difference between things like legless (which only offends those looking for offence) and saying that someone probably has learning difficulties due to them doing something that you class stupid. This is why words like spastic, reatrd etc are not now in acceptable use. I do not believe it is PC, to state a use of terms appropriately. I understand they are friends as Hugh says but these forums are open to all including people with learning difficulties living in the area. I also realise that offence may not be caused to everyone wih a learning difficulty as everyone is an individual at the end of the day.
I never heard of "Learning difficulty" as a means of labelling people until this thread. I can certainly identify with it when trying to put some flat pack furniture together though.
we certainly all have our own individual difficulties doing everything - mine is looking after any flora or fauna. As for flat pack furniture - that maybe more Ikea's fault than yours!
I think this is an example of why this site is so successful. Someone writes something and put their neck on the line. Everyone has their tuppence worth and things move on. People are checking the site as they know things are constantly changing and therefore when something serious turns up it it gets a lot of views.
What we need is what stylish Parisiennes take to the street market:

My friend Trudy got one of these by mail order when she gave up her car. I have not yet followed suit but it could be the way to go if I was shopping only for one or two. Nobody calls these fancy sets of wheels granny baskets!
