Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Four very long hours later at the town hall, surprise vote to chuck out the monstrous Grainger plan to destroy our local market+shops. One Labour member changed loyalties, have yet to work out who was who, but amazing that it didnt get nodded through like last time. They will appeal but we are now on the up.

As the committee have voted out the Grainger plan, based on careful consideration of the facts before them, let's hope that the rest of the council gets behind that majority decision and supports the WCCC to get cracking with the real regeneration of Wards Corner. We've been delayed long enough.

A planning application  has been submitted by a representative of the market holders operating in the indoor market on the Wards Corner site, to restore parts of the buildings there. Here is the url to the application ref no. HGY/2011/1275

It is a forward step in this drawn out process towards getting a scheme that is inclusive of the community interests and that will not displace and replace local people. The proposals in the application are for restoring aspects of the building and this is in part what people in the area have been clamouring for all round.
Look at the consultation response no.4 by the agents representing Grainger plc and make up your own mind exactly what this developer (Grainger plc) is all about. This letter is the height of corporate hypocrisy and cynicism. Read carefully what ASP has written and make up your own mind to see what our community has been fighting against for many long years.
And it seems that that HARINGEY COUNCIL HAS STILL NOT GOTTEN THE MESSAGE THAT HAS COME OUT OF THE RIOTS! They are still not listening to the communities and they are preparing solutions that have not worked in the past. Real and meaningful regeneration cannot come from outside and be imposed on people. People must be full particpants in the process. The aim is not to displace the problems but to solve them.
IF A MAN IS HUNGRY AND YOU GIVE HM A FISH YOU FILL HIM FOR THE DAY. BUT HE'LL BE HUNGRY AGAIN TOMORROW. TEACH HIM TO FISH AND THEN HE CAN SELF MANAGE IN DIGNITY AND PRIDE!

There are so many varied and interesting messages beginning to come out of the riots. Though perhaps unsurprisingly, many seem to endorse the previous standpoint of the person "hearing" the message.
