Did these six pedestrians all combine to attack an innocent motorist head on?

If not, this was not a f--king collision.  Met Police, learn what the word means.

I share your frustration. Would they say that someone collided with a bullet?

At least they acknowledged that this car had a driver in the 4th paragraph (because they didn't stop obviously). Usually the car mysteriously takes it upon itself to run a pedestrian down.

Hope everyone is okay. It's a horrific thought that just being on the pavement makes you a target. Even if the injuries aren't life-threatening or changing, the psychological damage to the victims could be immense.

The driver must have been travelling at an appalling high speed to do this

Yes, I suspect that pole possibly saved someone's life. If they had smashed into flesh and blood like that, the person would almost certainly have been killed. This person deserves the full penalty of the law. It was early evening, there were probably dozens of people about and this was dangerous driving in a big car (4x4) of the first order. It is a miracle no one was more seriously hurt. Let's hope the Met catch them.

The Met have probably already given up due to lack of evidence

Let’s hope the CCTV at the junction was working

It was. Well the Mail has pics they claim are CCTV

Knowing the Mail, probably taken at a different date. From a different city.

It is common usage to use 'collide' even if one of the objects is stationary. For example, 'The car collided with a tree'. It doesn't imply that the tree had any responsibility in the event.
