Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I'm not sure whether this has been shared elsewhere on HOL - can't see it in a search but...

We have recently received a note through our front door that the St Ann's Low Traffic Neighbourhood will be implemented on 22 August.

This is a heads-up for anyone living in or driving through the area between West Green Road and St Ann's Road.  There will no longer be a direct route between the two major roads unless you are a bus or have a 'X2' exemption pass.

Woodlands Park Road, Black Boy Lane, Cornwall Road and Avenue Road will all be closed to through traffic.

The restriction points will be monitored by CCTV, so no doubt LBH will be issuing lots of PCNs!  Drivers beware!

I attach two documents, one a map of the area showing the traffic cells as they will be after implementation, and the other the supporting document.

I cycle along Newsam and Avenue, following the road markings for cyclists.

(when there's not a scaffold truck parked on the cycle lane anyway)

I've noticed that far end of St Ann's Road is a lot busier than normal, all being forced along Harringay Road. I still can't understand the council's logic of not having the junction of St Ann's and GL as a proper junction and stop forcing traffic down Harringay Road and Salisbury Road. I did ask about it at a council meeting during GLATS but they said it was impossible to change it.

I see a cyclist riding up Pemberton Road fairly regularly.

Sounds like a mess trying to get from this side to that side - i need to bring a load of stuff to the recycling centre from 7sisters. Direct route along WestGreen Road, Philip Lane or Lordship Road then home again where I can only go via WG Rd.  Any suggestions for best time to attempt this? The tip closes at 4pm. My garden waste is getting a bit snaily.

0900 Sat or Sun if possible, works for me though I only have Wightman + Hornsey Park Rd to navigate, I concede.

Yeah, I’d go early

Perhaps if you walk or cycle instead, the garden waste will just evaporate? Works for all the traffic in GL and West Green Road, as we’ve seen in the last two days….

Commuting home via Ally Pally, @ around 18.40 yesterday, and Priory Park to Turnpike Lane station was solid with traffic as I sailed past on my bike. Fellow cyclists, please watch out for road rage ( bulging eyes, spittle inflected cursing) drivers using back streets ( Langham) to speed up their journey.  I noticed further up the thread that Carlingford Rd is going to be closed off @ TPL, and I thought the same was going to happen @ junction of Langham and WGR.  Bring it on, drivers have been using Langham and Belmont as a cut through to the North ever since I moved here.

Well one person on my side then. Ban all residents from owning any type of car or motorbike no exceptions whatsoever!

it’ll be a perfect world only marred by bulging eyed spittle inflected cursing cyclists as we banish them to main roads to stop them all rat running the residential streets where they have no business being.

just saying!

Andy H.  I need my car to transport the equipment I work with...just like plumbers and electricians etc... are you saying that I should give up working?! what shall I eat? how will I pay my bills?..I don't have a comfy job sitting in front of a laptop all day. I am a cyclist too and of course empathise about cycle routes and pollution but a solution is always there to benefit everyone... but I just cannot take 8/9 boxes on a bus to a range of distances and locations near or far away from my home by bus, train etc...I cannot afford taxis as the jobs vary and I will not be reimbursed by the clients. Thank you for highlighting how desperate my situation is for me. A workman came to my flat yesterday and told me he lives in the St Anne's LTN but luckily has a drive way to put his truck on. I don't!

Most people he tells me just don't put their head above the parapet - new immigrants or illegals or simply working people who are worried about getting involved and concentrate on bringing up their families .. they just won't have a say by default and this is a Labour Council that champions the rights of workers.

This debate is so one-sided and I can see it's not about collaboration and understanding. If you live in society you have to work together for the good of all. HoL is full of ranters and it's all so depressing. Nobody thinks of the actuality of people's lives.

I think andyh is being a little sarcastic there. He isn't on the side of the LTNs.

I was trying to show HoL that it isn't simple and my situation would be desperate if implemented. Thanks for explaining it Andrew Number 2!
