Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I'm not sure whether this has been shared elsewhere on HOL - can't see it in a search but...

We have recently received a note through our front door that the St Ann's Low Traffic Neighbourhood will be implemented on 22 August.

This is a heads-up for anyone living in or driving through the area between West Green Road and St Ann's Road.  There will no longer be a direct route between the two major roads unless you are a bus or have a 'X2' exemption pass.

Woodlands Park Road, Black Boy Lane, Cornwall Road and Avenue Road will all be closed to through traffic.

The restriction points will be monitored by CCTV, so no doubt LBH will be issuing lots of PCNs!  Drivers beware!

I attach two documents, one a map of the area showing the traffic cells as they will be after implementation, and the other the supporting document.

Yep, I understand that. Meant on a separate note -  maybe residents should be allowed only 1 parking permit, as this might help with traffic issues

When electric cars become the norm the government will need to replace the revenue they get from fuel duty. Road tax by the  mile will sort people out.

But I shudder when I see that 'the industry' is already planning for flying cars. Can you imagine these intruvise things flying all around and buzzing over your garden and passengers peering into your private spaces? It is already oppressive when we in Tottenham have events at Spurs with the horrible cop ter is flying pollutiing the air with its extremely oppressive noise - we get a double whammy since we can't use our High street (overtaken by hordes) and can't even retreat to have no peace in our own homes.

Why not just ban all cars? Make the whole area a NO car zone. and not issue any parking permits even to residents for any reason at all.

It’s already done for new large developments. It would put haringey at the fore front of a walking society!!

not just large developments. Most planning permissions now have a no-car rule attached. The Grainger tower at 7Sisters - 165 dwellings - is carfree, and all the new build at Tottnm Hale is too, thousands there. Maybe some people will find private parking places but that would be it. Renting out your front yard will become very lucrative.

And then we can ban electric bicycles and scooters (or motorbikes as I prefer to call them) through the NCZ as well. I can’t stand the idea of exporting emissions to power stations elsewhere, Its hypocrisy of the highest order, when we are trying to create a zero emissions country.

Electric bicycles enable many people who don't or can't afford a car to get around, and with fitness benefits too.

No one within the zone should be allowed to own/use a car, not even electric, under any circumstances, so banning e-bikes etc wouldn’t detrimentally affect anyone. Would ensure no emissions and we would all be the same, so very egalitarian to boot.
Walking has no emissions, is very good for your health, and comparatively, public transport in London is exceptional!

sorry, no exceptions for polluting e-bikers.

Walking has no emissions

Well that's not strictly true. Think of those calories that are burnt when you walk, they have to come from somewhere. Just think of all those exported emissions from growing and transporting that food.

So, no walking either.

You really need to get to know some disabled people. Or spend a day in a wheelchair and see how you get on.

I guess we would need to ban mobility scooters too.

That would make things completely equal don't you think? I mean, sure some people can't walk but at least they won't be causing any emissions.

Please Google "social model of disability"

Andrew, That’s not a problem, with no cars the road surfaces can be broken up and returned to food production we’d need some crop rotation tho’.( we’d only need the pavements).I’ve always fancied living in a wheat field, and would lead to some great business opportunities. Woodlands park granery/bakery, and huge numbers of new allotment plots, or we could go permaculture.

It would certainly be transformational! Any of you ever read William Morris’ ‘News from nowhere’ ??  One step in the right direction, I’m thinking.
