Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Anyone see that low flying jet fighter that flew over Wood Green this morning. I didn't see it but heard it and thought it was coming down. Noisy isn't the word.

My wife heard the same about it being a dry run for this Sunday's game at WHL.

US military jets flying over North London

 Sunday, 10th Oct 2021
 Starts at 2:00 pm
 Free

Coronavirus: Events may be cancelled and venues closed at short notice, you are advised to check on their websites before making a trip.

A flypast of four US military jets will take place over the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as part of a US football event.

The flypast will (or at least should be) by four F-15 Eagle fighter planes based at RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk.

An unusual sight to look out for if in the area.

There will be flypasts on both 10th and 17th October. The flypast is timed to be between 2:15pm to 2:45pm, but as the kick-off of the football matches is at 2:30pm, it's likely that the flypast will be earlier.

The amount of money that the NFL are throwing into these games at WHL is extraordinary. They have dedicated fan areas in strategic areas around and near the game with American food delicacies such as the obligatory burgers and hot dogs etc but also BBQ, tacos and plenty of cold American peewater beer. And I don't mean the usual mobile stands selling typhoid dogs like on a normal match day, I mean properly done along with live entertainment. I guess they are trying to replicate the matchday cookout atmosphere that takes place stateside when NFL games are playing. ENIC & I dare say Haringey council must be rubbing their hands together with joy with all those dollar bills floating down from heaven. I would also hazard a guess that permission for the flyover must have been granted by mayor Khan? Is he getting a kickback out of this? :) It's a bit of American razzmatazz that's going to be happening in our borough for 2 days. Yes it's corny, yes it's mad but it is American in nature so totally OTT and a bit ridiculous but at least its a bit of fun.

All those dollar bills will stay firmly within the stadium- the odd cent might be spent buying chewing gum at a local shop.  I doubt Khan has any say on flights within London’s airspace - the Civil Aviation Authority will have been charmed into giving permission no doubt or there will have been some military thumbs up given the aircraft concerned.

All part of (indeed most of) The Special Relationship, innit??

Yes they wanted to comandeer the Bruce Castle Park THAT LIES IN A CONSERVATION AREA in order to have one of thos American style BBQ event! It would thrash the park (an important local heritage asset in an area with extremely high levels of deprivation and would withdraw it availability for local residents during set up, use and removal of equipment. How perverse!

Spurs is a very cynical billion £ offshore company that has no interest in the people of Tottenham only it bottom line.

You don't need to be "a very cynical billion £ offshore company that has no interest in local people" to attempt that sort of thing

Well, there might not be so much bread from the high and mighty these days, but there are always circuses for the hard of thinking, and this with a delicious smattering of cultural imperialism.

Bet you're a barrel of laughs at a party ;)

Well, you know, Doodle, I prefer to find my own amusements. Indeed, the only pleasure I’m likely to get from a party is in declining the invitation in the first instance, and a longer lasting sense of satisfaction from having avoided the sort of riffraff who go to parties. Funny how scarce invitations are these days…

When do these flyovers take place? Very keen to have eyes on it as it's truly a sight to behold.
