Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I was pleased to see the nice statement from Haringey Council following the death of Prince Philip. They don't make many men like that any more, unfortunately. May he rest in peace.

Yes, a very special man. An amazing life of service for our country, the Commonwealth and humanity generally. I remember my grandparents in Greece speaking highly of his family too.

One of the last of the generation who saved the world from national socialism. An example to all. RIP.

My transferred comment on the family's close links with the Nazi Party was a complement to Devon's mention of National Socialism here. Even motions of condolence need their full context.

...and that full context can be fully explored on the other thread.

Since this thread was established essentially as a book of condolence, in line with our house rules, dissenting views have been moved to a new thread, Please add any further non-condolence comments to that thread.

The Duke of Edinburgh opened Page High housing development in Wood Green in 1975. He allegedly said to one resident" Does everything work? When you flush the loo, the lights don't come on do they?" !

It is/was all just oppressively too much. Like Russia or China in mourning.

As humans we need to respect his family's great loss. But to expect us all to interrupt our lives is just too much!

Do not forget that these people are born into postion.

If " these people " are born into a position we place on them higher expectations than we do on ordinary people like you.

Nobody expects you to interrupt your life. Please carry on as usual.

Oh, and you could respect HOL Site Admin's request above to place comments like yours in the other thread

Very well said John D !
