Car explosion and no internet

A car exploded on corner of Stanhope Gdns/ Green lanes about 3.50pm. Really hope none hurt but didn't see ambulance, just firemen. Think it was electric fault with car. Since then no internet or landline. BT say will be fixed by Weds. That's not good for all us working at home. Anyone else having this problem?

https://smarty.co.uk/ offer a 30Gb SIM for £10 per month on a 1 month contract recently in case that helps anyone. Speeds were OK when I used it during July. Not good for downloading\streaming but adequate for quite intensive browsing.

Update: Friday 9 October, 10.00

I’ve just got off the phone to BT who spent 25 mins getting an update on timing and they confirmed phone lines due to be back up by Thursday 15 October.

And Broadband by Tuesday 17 November.

Are there any other non-BT networks round here that work?
Looking at my laptop, it seems you can get a TalkTalk connection.

The only wired alternative is virgin media, which comes through the cable tv network; I don't think any other companies buy access to this.

All other wired services go via BT phone lines, so are affected (including e.g. talk talk).

The other option is to get a hub that connects to the mobile network - EE, vodafone, three & O2 are the four options, though other companies also use these 4 networks.

From a brief look, three has a monthly contract mini-hub, while for EE you have to get a long contract. A few people are getting hubs sent by their internet service provide for free, but many (including me) are not.

Worth noting that there was no-one working there and no vans when I passed the site at 12.15 - earlier there had been two vans, but no visible work happening.

Maybe UK Power Networks have failed to turn up again?

I recently moved and got a 100GB EE sim card with a 30 day contract for under £30. Other networks do the same kind of deals with 3 being a bit cheaper and vodafone a bit more expensive.

I put the SIM in an old phone so as not to tie up my existing phone.

I'd be cautious about Vodafone - I was on the phone to them this pm to try and work out why I couldn't get a data service in some rooms of the house (e.g. the kitchen), and they said that the 4G service around here is currently under maintenance for the next 1-2 weeks.

I changed various settings on my phone, but the basic position now is that if I am using 4G (the default) then I don't have data in the kitchen, but if I switch 4G off then I do have a connection on 3G (on an iPhone settings > Mobile data > Mobile data options > Voice & Data, tick '3G' rather than '4G'). I'm going to try leaving it on 3G for the moment....
