Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

The following from the Council:

New measures to help with social distancing at busier points in the borough are being introduced as part of a package of measures devised by Haringey Council.

Haringey has been speaking to businesses about challenges they have been facing during the Covid-19 pandemic, such as “pavement pinch-points” outside shops that have outdoor queues in high footfall areas and near bus stops. As a result, pavements will be temporarily widened with barriers at some locations, a small number of parking bays will be suspended and some bus stops will be moved slightly.

The intention is to make it safer and easier for businesses, their customers and Haringey’s communities to do their essential shopping safely.

The first phase of these works has begun at 10 sites, with a second phase to follow. Haringey will closely monitor the measures at all sites to ensure they are helping residents.

The locations are:

  • 17-19 Grand Parade - Green Lanes N4, Iceland
  • 34-35 Green Lanes N4, Savers and Post Office
  • 337 West Green Road, Sainsbury's
  • 308 West Green Road, Tesco Express
  • 315 West Green Road, Food Centre
  • 27-29 West Green Road, West Green Halal Market
  • 3-7 West Green Road, Sainsbury’s
  • 39-41 High Road N22, Savers
  • 46-50 High Street (Hornsey) N8, Tesco Express
  • 24 High Street (Hornsey - Post Office) N8

Residents are urged not to park dangerously, for example on yellow lines, on zigzags near crossings and on footways. Enforcement will be carried out for parking that puts people at risk.

The council is currently working on a second phase which will be announced soon, and other businesses have been offered social distancing support and advice.

Completely agree.

Another one of the regulations that current Council Authorities seem unable to Enforce

Remember the good old days when working for Highways Enforcement.                                          When We used to clear footways of Trading encroachments

Agree with Osbawn!!!

I’ve written to Haringey to suggest suspending street trading.  If I get a reply I’ll post it here.

I was rather surprised to see not a temporary bus stop sign further up the road from Mattison Road stop (outside Iceland), but in fact a more permanent looking arrangement - bus stop markings and the stop marker itself have been re-sited outside Gokyuzu.

There is a new - permanent-looking - entrance to the park on Endymion Rd, into the cricket/baseball field nearer to Green Lanes.

I notice there are none in Crouch End where parts of the Broadway get really congested with people doing their shopping, especially outside Dunn’s and Superdrug where the pavement is narrow. It’s a bus route so I suspect nothing can be done. There is however a litter bin outside a Dunn’s which blocks the pavement even more so perhaps there is also a case for looking at the location of these

and then maybe as far as humanly possible....one way pavement traffic. Each side of the road for a different direction. Very uniformally and controlled. Does this sound like the direction of travel?

I think one way pavement traffic is a good idea. At the moment I have to keep zigzagging across roads to avoid people walking/running in the opposite direction. That's a hazard now but when the traffic builds up again will be really dangerous
