Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Harringay to Oxford, via Holland (aka What's with the postal service at the moment)

I sent two birthday cards last Tuesday, posted in the same post box (one on Green Lanes by the Post Office) to the same address in Oxford (to twins who like opening their own cards, in case you are wondering).

One arrived on the Thursday, post-marked Manchester. The other arrived today, post-marked Amsterdam!!!! Anyone know what's going on?

Okay, obviously haven't been keeping up with the news - mail delivery being hit by postal strikes, including in London. More here.
We have had loads of mail that hasn't arrived and I know that has been sent.
At least they arrived...our mail goes so regularly to other streets, and vice versa, that we're doing half the RM's job for them. I never get tickets delivered at home any more, not since 200 pounds worth went to the corresponding address to ours in Umfreville. I was grateful to the kind folks there who posted them through our letterbox but fear that other residents may not be so honest.
You have my sympathy. I had a funny patch where lots of my mail went to the equivalent number in Allison Road. It is confusing, I guess, almost having the same first name as a nearby street ...
Postie in North Finchley told us that they can't stockpile the backlog of post and on that day (Tues) he said there were currently three waggons full of post going to York for sorting and shipping back when it could be dealt with. He also said that while London had over 80% of the posties' support, in other parts of the country some of the practices they are fighting against are already in place. If they lose this battle the post office will finally be totally carved up and the spoils going to the highly paid executioners.
Our postman on the 'ladder' is not happy at all as he is being made to do part of a delivery of post to another area before he starts his normal round and is struggling to finish it and that's without the current backlog caused by the strikes.
