Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
A call to action for residents and users of Woodlands Park Road
Walking back today from dropping the boy off at his new school, it was pointed out to me by someone who lives on Woodlands Park Road that the padlock that secures the emergency access only gate across the road has been broken. Larger trucks (including a car transporter!) are now opening the gate to rat run their way down to West Green Road. Some close the gate, some don't.
This is a quiet back road with a busy Children's Centre, a Primary School and is a quiet route for countless school children to walk to and from school. However, the less civic-minded of the truck driving community are now passing the information on that you can get through and the number of lorries using it is increasing. Responses to requests not to come down the road and open the gate by neighbouring residents are met with the inevitable "F*** Offs" so beloved of road users in London.
I have reported it via the Haringey Council App and have tweeted a photo to the council. Can I ask that others who live or use the road regularly do the same so that this problem is quickly sorted and the rat-running is quickly nipped in the bud.

For the time being at least, order has been restored as the council did in fact change the lock. Then sent out an email saying they weren’t going to. Then another one saying they had. Par for the course :)

Had a look at it. The lock was broken rather than unlocked by someone with a key, unfortunately. Otherwise it would have been re-locked ☺

Ok. Stand down troops! Photographer Paul Wood has sent me this picture this morning of a new lock on the gate. So it appears someone did fix it despite the blah, blah email they sent out yesterday. Hooray!

Yes, that dumb email was unnecessary. I didn’t want to say yesterday but I think a bloke on a bike did come and have a look. And probably popped back this morning with a lock. Meanwhile, computer churns out junk to residents which appears to say the opposite. Anyway, problem solved for now at least and the neighbouring houses are happy. So that’s a result!

I've had a reply from the council, disappointingly exactly word for word the same as your reply Liz.
However Noah replied to my email yesterday evening saying he would take it up and will let me know the result.

Except that it’s been fixed! So the email must be some auto-generated gubbins. Someone has put a new lock on the gate as you can see from the pic above. Main thing is to keep an eye and make sure it’s not broken again.

And an email from a human drops into my inbox from Frontline to tell me that the padlock has been replaced in response to my ”puzzled of Harringay” email of yesterday. SMH as the young people say :0

Hi Liz
Just to let you know I contacted Highways to report it and copied din the ward councillors. I got a reply by return saying it was fixed. I think the email you received was not exactly customer friendly to put it mildly and unlikely to endear you to the Council. I will raise this as I think such officious Council speak is not necessary.

Sadly it's the scores of constantly speeding cars up and down the road that are far more dangerous to all the little folk backwards and forwards to school and nursery each day, rather than the (generally) slow-moving larger vehicles. I've seen plenty of drivers happily drive through the width restriction gate at upwards of 20mph so that 'calming measure' pretty much serves no purpose!
