Great initiative, look out for these stickers "Thanks to the support of Havebike and London Cycling Campaign, 2000 car stickers with the words 'I give space for cyclists' will be given to motorists on the day and at Exchanging Places events" 

Cycle Safety Team officers from the Met's Roads and Transport Policing Command will go to any location, at any time, on any borough, based on intelligence and complaints, to ensure drivers properly obey the rules of the road.

I regularly see cars not stopping at the signalised crossings on Wightman Road. As a pedestrian I usually wait until the car stops rather than rely on the light being red. It may be that if I did actually step out without waiting for the car to stop, that your "99% will stop for me" claim would be proved true, but I'm not inclined to test it.

I didn't say that I would step out without waiting for the car to stop - I'm not a idiot.  I said that I had confidence that the cars would stop.  What happens is that the cars stop and then a cyclist rides up from the back of the queue and cycles over the crossing ignoring the red light.  Happens all the time.

I can honestly say that I have never seen a person texting whilst cycling.
From my experience, mostly Boris bike users, possibly checking google maps.

Yep - cyclist breaking rad lights, again and again and again - I used to sometimes remonstrate with them, but can't be bothered anymore, as it's a wasted exercise and just raises my blood pressure (as a cyclist myself it makes me so mad that I feel like punching them)- a campaign is needed against this craziness and some hefty on the spot fines - a difficult problem to police though.

Yes indeed- the pedestrian lights at cnr Wightman and Hampden are a nightmare. It's a very regular occurrence that drivers just barrel straight through and you have to leap back on the curb or wait for them to pass first etc.

if we're using that sort of evidence (i.e. n=1) I can guarantee that drivers are a danger to pedestrians legally crossing the road! 

Some people on bikes are dolts. Some drivers are dolts. I would not claim all drivers should be treated dangerously because some cause danger, and I am very sad to see you seem to think I should be put in danger because you don't like how someone totally unconnected to me happens to ride their bike.

More people are killed and injured by drivers jumping lights than cyclists jumping lights
More people are killed and injured by drivers driving on pavements than cyclists on pavements
More people are killed and injured by drivers behaving perfectly acceptably than by cyclists acting like utter nobs.

You have got so used to motor vehicles killing hundreds of people that you don't even notice it, yet are incensed by bad cycling despite it being so much less dangerous. It would be funny if it wasn't so tragic.

I hate seeing bad cycling, but if we are going to focus on making roads safer, let's start with the real dangers eh?

I didn't raise the issue of motorists injuring/killing people so you have no right to infer that I don't care about this.

With regard to cyclists there are some quick and easy things which they could do which would make pedestrians safer.

Always stop at red lights.

Always stop at zebra crossings.

Always obey no cycling signs.

Don't cycle on pavements.

I do apologise. Please point me to a post where you have put as much effort into complaining about bad driving.

And who are these "cyclists" you are addressing? I already do all those things.

The best thing people, cyclists or otherwise, can do to make pedestrians safer is to stop tolerating bad driving. Anything else is akin to changing the batteries in the smoke alarm while the building is on fire.

"Well I can assure you that my observations are based on hard evidence - I see this rule breaking with my own eyes". That's the exact definition of anecdotal evidence. It's the complete opposite of hard evidence.

Since you need confirmation bias defining as well, that's the fact that you're not as conscious of law abiding cyclists. Your 'evidence' is skewed because of your own prejudices.

Some people on bikes are dolts. That doesn't justify treating everyone on a bike as if they deserve no consideration or legal protection.

I suspect Harringay Station bridge is a dolt-filter. Dismounting and pushing is generally a faff and involves wheeling around pedestrians. Dolts will avoid it by not bothering, non-dolts will avoid it by finding a better route. So if you judge by Harringay Station bridge you probably do get a skewed idea of the dolt ratio.
