Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

There has been a bit of support for taking photos of rubbish left on The Ladder streets on one day in the summer - Sunday 9 July. The idea is that all the photos are posted on this discussion, one post per street with pics, and then forwarded to the Cabinet Member for Environment.

It not a major undertaking, just up one side of the street and down the other, not forgetting the bits at the tops and bottoms of the road on Green Lanes and Wightman.

So far we have the following rubbish photographers

Justin Guest - Pemberton
Kotkas - Mattison and Duckett
Me - Warham, Seymour, Allison and Beresford (and Lausanne if my legs hold out)
Els - Sydney and Raleigh
Osbawn - Avondale
John D - Hampden and Frobisher
DS - Fairfax and Falkland
Hugh - Hewitt
ThaiDi -Hermitage
GraemeTP - Effingham
Gordon T - Cavendish and all points south

The picture is illustrative Mickey rather than pointing the finger at the that one. Though I do think the narrowness of the pavement (you can see how far up the parking lines come) combined with the number of bins make this a real hazard. There are other places I saw today where the storage of wheelie bins is a sheer impossibility, those with basement entrances for example. Rather have a single approach maybe Haringey could look at individual circumstances and provide more suitable receptacles to allow people to keep a bin on their own property?

Why not try it! See my reply to Mickey just now. They've just refenced the corner house and could easily have created an indented space very cheaply in the back garden.

I agree that landlords should be made to do this, but getting them to do anything without council intervention is difficult (not all landlords I know). The thing is if they did indent then that space would be in danger of being used as a dumping ground by others, it would be nicely out of sight of the main road, the house you were referring to also was sprayed with graffiti a few weeks back as that side of the place is not overlooked very well.

Nice little story - we had a bin left outside our house with no lid and junk in it, I tried to move it away from the other bins so the Veolia would know which one had been dumped and to collect it (I'd reported it already) and as I did a rat lept out and landed on me before running off. To be fair I think it was more frightened than i was (though i screamed the street down and spent the rest of the evening in the shower) and at least I have an anecdote for dinner parties.
Eeeeuh!

Well, that was interesting. My impression is that the streets I covered are much cleaner than usual. Perhaps the paranoia about the Council / Veolia making a special effort was justified ?

I couldn't see any rubbish at all on Frobisher whereas, over the tracks, Hornsey ( above ) is pretty bad.

Someone remind me - how to embed images in a post as opposed to just attaching the files?
Thanks
You can only embed photos on a computer not a mobile device. On a computer, you should be offered options across the top when you open a comment box. One of those resembles a photo (hover the mouse over it to be sure) and that enables you to put photos into your post.
