Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

You have 101 things you ought to be doing, then the thought of making your old hifi digital enters the room

I love Rega cause it's in Essex, always second hand and over a decade old.

I used to find record players and get them back to playable/ saleable condition, (all dumped including an ARCAM & 2x AR EB101's.) It took me 8 decks later to afford a Naim Nait 3, (another UK product from Salisbury,) and if you can't afford a Bently, who cares, Naim design their sound system.

Just over the border Linn Index speakers are good & honest sounding, if you prefer something meaty Linn Sara's, all vintage so cheaper than what you would expect to pay in John Lewis, (I'd say cabinets probably need an upgrade, so your new BBF is a cabinet maker.) For pretty speaker cabinets Castle's, or Rega Ela's.

So why Jeremy Corbin is grand standing British Engineers, and why not, Brits also make some of the best HiFi, so explore, or get what you've got going again. It could just be an ARCAM rBlink wireless receiver, that may be all you need to stream Sound Cloud from your iPad.

Corbusier said the kitchen is the engine of the home, I always saw HiFi as the soul.

And even closer, a short walk from Blackhorse Road station, http://armstrongltd-eastlondon.co.uk/company-history/2292617

Granted they don't manufacture any longer, but they'll repair kit.

Has anyone used them recently and recommend them? I've got an amplifier which needs (we think) one or two caps that need replacing - EMI from the fridge has forced the issue.

I used them - some years ago though, and they were fine back then.

First thing would be to check that all leads are earthed correctly. A disconnected screen will let the inner act as an aerial to pick up interference.

We switched around inputs, output channels, speaker cables and speakers, and it stayed on the same side so it does seem to be something internal. No interference with another amp and all the same external cabling, either.

I knew these guys were there, but online feedback was mixed. I shall give them a call.

The quad amp

The quad ESL speakers

Hi fi porn !

They both look amazing, love the colours on that amp as well, recently picked up a Technics CD player for bigger all but will need to up my game after seeing this thread, cheers

I got a summer job with a TV engineer when I was 17 and we used to use this kit believe it or not for 'DJ Parties' on yachts in South Devon where I lived.

First album I paid for out of my own pocket especially to hear on the Quad kit was Led Zep 1 - changed my life.

Anyone remember what they first listened to on a pair of Quads?

My aunt and uncle had one of these speakers .. in Tottenham :-) From about 1968.. Dunno if I have photos anywhere..

Weren't allowed to use it much because of the neighbours.. :-)

I have a Rega Planar turntable, and Arcam amp and CD player; with 60 year old Heathkit speakers. My pride is an old Murphy AM radio, which dates from abut 1939, and came from my parents' old home. I found someone in the West Country in the early 80s who did a beautiful job repairing, rewiring and refurbishing it. On the tuning dial, there are not only radio stations that no longer exist, but radio stations from countries that no longer exist.

I have had the same radio for over 40 years so know what you mean about stations that no longer exist. Now want to sell it - any ideas where/how would be best?
