Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

This picture today on 'postal workers Facebook page' might hold a clue - entitled 'Complete Mayhem'.

Sunday morning post delivery today, so clearly they are trying to catch up on the back log. The package that arrived today was shipped on 6th April as a 48hr tracked parcel. I think most parcels seem to be about 14 days delivery time. But with the drop in staff numbers for sickness combined with increased mail-order from people staying at home it must be very hard to keep on top of it. There's probably some issue with security checks but wondering if it'd be possible for volunteers to help deliver some of the back log, as some of those parcels may be urgent for the recipient.

Sure I can see the birthday present that my nephew swore he sent in the picture.  Seriously, why aren’t they advertising for temporary delivery staff like they do at Christmas?  There are certainly plenty of people out of work at the moment who would jump at the chance to earn something.

Is that Holloway?

I know I do feel sorry for them. I got my 2 parcels yesterday that I had e pecked 10days ago. Was so happy as thought maybe they had got lost

Yesterday, 23th, I got a small (letterbox size) package delivered that was posted on the 28th of March.

Still waiting for something similar posted to me on 23rd March - I can't claim a refund from the eBay vendor as it isn't their fault it's not arrived. It was supposed to be 'tracked' but there is 'no information available.' I imagine it is lost at the bottom of one of these piles.

Hey Maddy, I'm having a similar problem - something sent to me at the end of March is still missing, and another parcel missing saying it's tracked but no info available as it hasn't been delivered yet (??). So just to say you're not alone!

I can only think that stuff sent a while ago is at the bottom of the pile so that what we're getting now is the more recent stuff that is on the top of the pile.

Quite frankly is it really mayhem or just a serious backlog, the cause for which we all know?

It may sound patronizing but I think, as with so much during this thing, that we need to have some patience.

We should be grateful that we can still order stuff online or even by click and collect at so many 'non-essential' shops - Wickes, B&Q, Plant sellers, Habitat....and so many more are still 'open'.

In France, Amazon closed for a while after the courts ordered them to sell onl... until they put the proper measures in place...

I find it annoying to have to use Amazon, which I normally avoid, because I know I can count on their deliveries - I won't buy anything which is to be sent via Royal Mail in case it goes astray, and have used couriers to send things elsewhere for the same reason. This isn't good either for small businesses or Royal Mail itself.

From conversations I've had with local posties, they do not feel supported by management, or that the organisation has dealt with the crisis very well.

Is that because the managemnt has not provided ppe or considered the extra measures needed, etc.

Amazon will probably end coming out of this crisis in a far more dominant position than before.  IT is like FB, Google and the lilke. Monopolistic and becoming indispensable/unavoidable. Amazon in particular avoids paying tax, has bad employees conditions....but people use it.

It is like paying by phone which is moving to Apple and Androd(Alphabet-Google) humongous 'supra-national' companies. We are giving these non-domiciled private concerns control over our purchasing data, the profits they make from our transactions, and allowing them to keep all the profits off shore in tax havens.

But people still use and don't appreciate what tehy have until they miss it.

I give preference to deliveries by Royal Mail as I am fortunate to still have a sorting centre and don't have to rely on being blocked at home for  the entire day just to be able to purchase online from the many various smaller national/regional online traders. They even are open on Sundays!
