What if...they didn't put the speed bumps back
As you probably know. Warham has been one of the roads closed for resurfacing this week.
The quiet and carlessness has been a treat, made all the better as far as my three year is concerned by the diggers and lorries that make periodic trips up and down the road. .
Yesterday, my neighbour who has lived on Warham for 20 years came to the garden gate for a chat. He mentioned how since they put the speed bump outside his house, he has noticed the plaster cracking in his house and the increased noise of cars/lorries going over the bump. He fervently wished they would not put the bump back.
So what if they didn't put the bumps back. Would we miss them?

David, of course it wouldn't be happening without an election. Our memories and gratitude are so short term, apparently, that Labour could not risk having a rolling programme over the in-between years.
This morning's edition of the colourful (t)issue of lies and half-truths 'Harringay Labour News - What Labour's Done for You in Harringay' boasts that it has "created a 20mph zone for Wightman Road. . . .".
Well, not exactly. In the three 'in-between years' when Wightman residents were discussing and agitating to have Wightman at long last incorporated into the existing Ladder 20mph Zone and to have our pavements brought up to scratch, where was our neighbour Cllr Gina Adamou or her 'long-term assistants'? Certainly not appearing on our road or attending any of our residents' association meetings. Credit here goes to Karen and Carolyn and to the Lib Dems who eventually ran with the petition.
What we have now are the first few signs of resurfacing and traffic calming. Who knows when any of this will be completed. Rest assured, if our long awaited pavements are ever 'delivered' (HarringayLabour Newspeak), they will not be of the standard that Cllr Adamou's Effingham Road has had foisted upon it.

What if (bit of a pause here) we had nothing! No humps, no chicanes, no street signs - but instead no entry from Green Lanes. Worth a thought.

'no entry from Green Lanes', added to the existing no entry from Wightman would make it a no car zone. (?)

Warham. We have the particular problem of cars coming straight over from Salisbury Road, usually at speed. I was being a bit flippant (but only a bit) about no entry from Green Lanes. I think there are two solutions. One is to reverse the one way so cars can come down from Wightman. The other is to force vehicles coming from Salisbury Road to turn left onto Green Lanes but that would be harder to enforce.

Spent a bit of time on Hewitt Rd today watching the cars go by. Some people were speeding, most were not and one idiot slammed on his brakes when he saw me taking his picture (he was going about 40). Allison Rd does not need any traffic calming IMHO, it's quite an uphill slope anyway.

Birdy, and everyone, a local traffic survey is our top pledge:
'We will carry out an appropriate holistic traffic survey of the Ward and its immediate surroundings within the first two years of a Lib Dem administration in order to tackle Harringay’s terrible traffic problems'.
If next Thursday we're given the opportunity to carry out this pledge we will immediately start a local consultation so residents can contribute ideas and help us find innovative and cost effective ways to solve the problem (just as you are doing in this thread already). We all have a stake in getting this right.
Regardless of the outcome I'm keen for us to have a public meeting quickly after the election devoted to this issue.

If the Liberal Democrats are the party in power on May 7th, will you put an immediate stop to the plan to install speed bumps on Wightman Road pending the outcome of your traffic survey? Please note that even the Council Traffic Management spokesman at the Transport Forum has said that speed bumps are deeply unpopular with residents and are ineffective as a method of enforcing speed limits.
If the Council persist in installing speed bumps, will there be a mechanism whereby residents can claim for damage to their properties ( cracking etc ) ?
