Well the writer lives/lived in Haringey, at least the picture researcher put in some effort! And it rings a lot truer than Janet Daley's 'Telegraph' article about Haringey Council late 70s/early 80s cited in the Jeremy Corbyn thread.

I grew up in a racial mono culture. In the first 17 years of my life the only non-white person I met was an exchange teacher in my primary school. I think it is interesting the UKIP strongholds are in places like my home town where the people living there have little personal experience of people and cultures except their own and where their views of people not like them come largely from the media.

Daley's caricture does ring true. I quite see the point she is making. The same was true of Lambeth before Heather Rabbatts was put in charge by Labour in the 90's and started cleaning it up. There were several looney left councils and we are still living with the damage done during that era that has given legitimacy to the Tory byelines.

Of course she doesn't talk about Tory gerrymandering and class hatred. But then she is after all writing in the Tory rag.

I seem to remember a couple of other cities in the UK which also have lots of brown people - as Aisha Mirza puts it.

I notice that the Guardian has made an (unspecified) change to the text of the article. And to the title.  Which is now called: "London's super-diversity is a joy. Why would you ever want to leave?"  They explain that this is:  "to ensure consistency with Guardian editorial guidelines."

Perhaps everyone should read it quickly before it's changed again to: "Why I love freshly made award winning Cornish Pasties."
