Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi,

They are consulting on changes to Seven Sisters Road from Manor House to Armhurst Road.

As a cyclist idea 6 appeals to me.

Can't say  any of them appeal to me and, yes, I'm a cyclist. How much will this cost? Why not leave the status quo as an option?

Having cycled down it myself to St Anne's road last night - I'd say that at present its a bit of a nightmare, particularly when the road narrows down after Amhurst Road. I would rather a dedicated and closed off cycle lane.

Why not leave the status quo? Really Justin? Don't the residents of Woodberry Down deserve to have that orphaned remnant of the London Ringways plan removed? Nobody else has to put up with a six lane rat run through their estate.

We've had at least one cyclist fatality on the junction between Seven Sisters and Amhurst Park in the last couple of years. It's scary as a pedestrian too, and despite speed cameras I see people driving at dangerous speeds more or less every day. I'm not sure if any of these proposals are the answer but improvements absolutely are necessary, IMHO.

The current state of this road discourages a lot of people from cycling locally.

I wouldn't disagree with that.

I'd have to agree with 6 as well.

Although a dedicated cycle lane sounds nice, 5 doesn't seem to have any detail how they'd cope with bus stops intersecting the cycle lane.

Need to really see the detail...how intersections, bus stops and cross overs will be treated. A proper dutch style cycle segregation would be great .
Visitt CS1 at 7 Sisters to see what you DO NOT want i.e bad compromise tickbox so called segrgated cycle path that has reduced the footpath and confuses pedestrian and cycle traffic while leaving 6 lanes for speeding and polluting traffic. The worst of all choices! And much £££ spent to no real achievement...waste!

I agree that the details are a bit sketchy at moment but hopefully they will provide more detailed info.

CS1 at SS is a joke, I'm a cyclist and I would never use it for that particular route as it would add more time and inconvenience (people) to my journey going through the road. I just don't get it; they want to promote Tottenham Green as the Civic Centre but then put CS1 through it so you'd get lots of fast cyclists. Obviously the cyclists are going to choose the road rather than face a load of people and therefore a waste of time, money and opportunity.

I jogged past seven sisters the other day. I thought that those pavement markings for cycle lanes were an old scheme and I was wondering why I hadn't noticed them before and when they'd be doing it properly.

With all that road space it's a terrible outcome for cycling.

It's a poor consultation document. Really need to be able to see how the lanes work for all the road between Manor House and Amhurst Park.

I cycle down there every day, both directions. To be honest, it's currently a stretch of road I feel safe on: cars (etc) have two lanes and don't do any close overtakes because bikes are in the wide enough bus lane. (It's not quite as safe after 7pm when some drivers are aware they can use bus lane). But I'm confident in traffic, I realise some people may prefer cycle lanes.

With option 6 I would fear that drivers that had been held up in congestion if it was a single lane would drive impatiently after this section (i.e. along the downhill stretch eastbound, where there's already enough hazards (traffic coming out/into Eade Rd; that car that's always in the bus lane; the dodgy Moreton Rd junction). Impatient driving = more risks.

Option 2 is the only one that appeals to me, although I don't see why they'd need to get rid of the ped island in the middle.

The status quo would win for me, but the developers have to be seen to be doing something, right?

Maybe we could go for option 6, but include machine gun emplacements to pick off the worst drivers. Road safety just got real!

You're absolutely right - that stretch of road is already problematic for all the reasons you mention.

Plus what IS going on with those temporary bollards on the junction with Eade Road that have been there for - what - a year now?
