Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Rubbish bins at bus stops throughout the area seem to be used as collection points for the purple street sweepers bags.

This encourages local shops and residents to dump their rubbish alongside the bags.
Particular bus stops near me are Seven Sisters on West Green Road and Turnpike Lane Station opposite the common.

This morning I and others had to clamber yet again over bags to exit the bus.

I have reported the problem to the council so we will see if things improve.

Please report the issue if it is occurring in other localities.

Hi Rob,

Can I suggest you pop this in  an email with your photos to the cabinet member for environment, Stuart McNamara

stuart.mcnamara@haringey.gov.uk

Let us know how you get on.

I have contacted Stuart and will let you know the outcome.

Here is a photo from this morning.

How would a buggy or wheelchair user cope?

This is always an issue at the Northbound Beresford Road stop. They need to move the bin away from the stop really.

Agree, fly tipping is a huge problem at the end of beresford road. It's disgusting.

If you move the bins away, people will litter around the bus stop before getting on the bus.

At the Harringay Green Lanes [station] southbound bus stop bags accumulate. Even if they're taken away once a day, there are so many that the pavement they stand on is already very badly stained and slippery. Could do with regular pressure washing after the bags are collected.

This is a well known and ongoing problem.
Haringey has a poor record of enforcing policy and the cuts are going to make it worse.
And the Council's idea of 'regeneration' is to subsidize property developers so that the wrong kinda people who do this kinda thing will be forced out and better heeled residents will take their place....the kind that don't drop bags in front of the bus stop!
So I amz afraid that you will have to wait another 10 years for the regen programm to take effect before the public realm gets any better.
Well on the 'bright' side, I'll have been priced out of the area by then.

I hope that's not their plan/hope, because my prediction would be that there will be smaller flats, higher rental prices, and in the poorly managed properties more people living in each, and consequently larger amounts of dumped rubbish - and to make a profit out of property rental, you need to cut lots of corners...

Or it could be student accommodation! Even worse.
A small amount of the well sited, correctly sized studlent accomodation can be good for an area.

Have you seen the Spurs. plans for 285 1 & 2 bed 'flats' on the soiuthern portion of the satadium site. Take a look and tell mei who will buy and occupy these. They will be counted towards the number of 'homes' being built in London!

I have a one bed flat.  It's all I can afford.  But at least I am committed to being in the area at least in the medium term (2-5 years) and if I get tenants in I plan to be a responsible landlord, having rented myself for 14 years and experiences all kinds of landlords in that time.  My flat was tenanted before I bought it but it was certainly in no condition to have tenants, and still isn't in my view although I have spent a lot of money and done a lot of work on it.

Students on the other hand are so transient, and prone to bad behaviour.  There's such a desperate need for permanent housing for Londoners that the proliferation of expensive student accommodation makes me sad.
