Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

We had a leaflet from haringey today saying that the decision to reverse the traffic flow had been shelved and instead a no right turn would be put in place, along with penalty cameras.
I think it is a shame that the reverse traffic flow has been halted as I think that would have genuinely helped with our problems on Hewit but I wondered what anyone else thought. There is a chance to respond about this decision to the council.

Pemberton Road will suffer as all  traffic wanting to cross Green Lanes to get to St Ann's Road will have to turn left at Pemberton and then right at the lights instead of the split between Pemberton and Hewit as we have now...

I bet they'd prefer to head further north to Beresford and do the much easier right hand turn out of there and then a left into St Ann's. Green Lanes between St Ann's and Willoughby Rd is relatively quiet and free of traffic lights.

I don't think so. Turning right out of Hewit Road onto Green Lanes is very easy and much quicker than going to the next road up.

I agree with John on this point.  In the view of this particular left-turner, it is only when Green Lanes traffic is very light in both directions that turning right from Hewit can be described as easy.  Moreover, it is the kind of turn where an assertive style of driving can often be observed (at least it could when Obergine was still open). Delays in turning right onto to Green Lanes is why a long line of cars can be often seen waiting to get out.

Surely if the turn out of hewit is hard today but lots of cars are doing it anyway then those same cars get aren't going to get put off a hard turn anywhere else and all of a sudden starting looking for something easier out of Beresford, are they?

The right hand turn INTO Hewit is also easier for traffic heading North but wanting to go through St Ann's (i.e. having to avoid the gardens). This is because you're on your way downhill so can do a bit of accellerating through gaps, they're on their way uphill so there are gaps.

I emailed Haringey council, Burgoyne will NOT be two way:

Thank you for your enquiry dated 18 October.

I can inform you that that the Council will not be making Burgoyne Road two way.

The reason for the notice at Wightman Road is because Thames Water will be carrying out sewer improvements and a section of the road will be closed temporally whilst the works are being carried out. This means that the road will be made two way either side of the closure.

I have attached a works notice from Thames Water which was sent to residents of Burgoyne Road for your information.

Thank you once again for your enquiry.

Thanks, Bethany!

Just thought I'd re-open this discussion now that the 'no right turn' has been instigated - at least, in so far as there is now a 'Turn Left' instruction on the road at the bottom of Hewit, and a no right turn sign. So far, however, still a lot of cars ignoring the signs and turning right!

I spoke to one of our local councillors on the phone recently (I can't remember her name, but she called to discuss local issues in the lead up to the elections) and she informed me that a camera would be installed in order to help to regulate the turning. I for one will be interested to see the difference that this makes - as the signs alone don't seem to be making much difference so far!

Huge spikes work a treat

I got caught out this morning, wanting to turn right towards the Arena. So, turn left and then U-turn on Green Lanes to head back south. Not a problem on a Sunday morning but going to be fun on a weekday rush hour

If there are any warning signs at the top of Hewit, I didn't see them.

There is an advance warning sign on Wightman Road about 50 metres south of Hewitt.  There's probably another north of Hewitt.
