Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

The mess shown above appeared outside 180 Wightman Road, I think it was overnight on 6th/7th December.  I reported it to Haringey's online service at 10.22 yesterday (8th).  Haringey reported to this effect at 11.44 this morning (9th) and I can confirm that the mess has been removed.  The website is: http://www.haringey.gov.uk/contact/report-it

For some kinds of report, including fly tipping, you must create an online account.

PS. If Haringey are looking for a Clean Streets czar, they couldn't do better than our own fabulous Lauren.

I use the Our Haringey app, I think it's just Love Clean Streets with Haringey branding. It works for street based stuff but not so much for fly tipping on estates. Sometimes items like fridges are here for weeks because Veolia will only collect from the street but the caretakers say it's Veolia's responsibility. Meanwhile I get a response from the app saying it's been dealt with and still have to walk past the mess every day...

You can also email enquiries.haringey@veolia.com.  I send them about a dozen emails a month because I see that much flytipping in the area.  The flytipping is picked up very, very quickly.  I'm sorry but I take offence to the phrases like 'malicious reporting' and 'people who have too much time on their hands.'  However, I'm sure it happens.  However, I would rather be a resident who cares about the Borough who when sees something acts rather than a complacent resident who doesn't give a damn and reports nothing.  I report flytipping every time I see it.  I want a clean community.  The people who are fly tipping need to be educated about what they can do with they rubbish and/or who they can call to pick it up.  If people didn't flytip, we wouldn't have to report it.   I have never done it maliciously or because I have too much time on my hands.  I make time to report it.  I do, however, have issues about having to pick up cable ties from the street because Council workers are too lazy to bend over and pick them up when they cut a sign off a lamp post.  Some Council workers need to have a bit more pride in the Borough.  But that is another story.  I would hate to hear that someone thinks I have too much time on my hands to report what I think is a problem in my area.

I too am a frequent reporter. There's a big difference between people who see a problem and decide to deal with it instead of just walking by (people like you) and the small number of people who deliberately report problems, including made up ones, purely to clog up the system and get people running around for their own amusement.
I don't know about Antionette's experience but when I worked for a local authority there were a couple of people who made a career out of submitting huge numbers of complaints and reports. All of them had to be investigated to find out which were true (some), which were insignificant (measuring the height of kerbs stones and complaining if they were a millimetre or two out of alignment sticks in my mind) and which were made up (lots).

I too make anywhere between 12 and 18 reports a month; all backed up with photographic evidence (via the App).  Some are pranks - such as the report we received that there was graffiti claiming a local councillor only had one testicle.  Now if that isn't "someone with too much time on their hands" I don't know what is.  If you allow anonymous reporting that is the sort of BS you have to deal with.

Totally agree.  The Council needs to get rid of anonymous reporting that would help solve the problem.  That's a bigger problem than just at the Council though.

@ Antoinette -But did you check ? Perhaps with photographic evidence ?

I would have but I didn't want another sexual harassment case on my record....
