Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi all,

Does anyone know if BBQing in Finsbury Park is allowed? I'm hoping to have a picnic there when it gets warmer with friends but can't find the park rules anywhere. If not, does anyone know of another park in North London that allows barbecues

Also, do any of the parks allow alcohol?

Many thanks in advance! I have already contacted the Council for information but thought I'd ask here as well.

A couple of years ago I came across a few hundred people having a BBQ in the American Gardens ( the bit by Endymion). I think as long as you clear up and don't cause a nuisance nobody will bother you.

Lift the BBQ off the ground with a couple of bricks if you can so you do not kill the grass underneath...

I believe that BBQ's and alcohol are both banned under local bylaws.

How the above is handled is down to how you look and behave, and the attitude of the parkies, and the police.

Barbecues are banned but they don't enforce it. Ditto Booze ad weed. Might I suggest you buck the trend and try not to burn the grass/picnic tables or leave your rubbish on the floor.  :

You can barbecue at Highbury  Fields but that is a much smaller park!

I love old bye laws. In Islington the use of dickey straps is forbidden and whistling for a cab carries a fine of 40 shillings.

You can barbecue in any park managed by Camden or Islington Councils.  They are the only councils in London to allow it, although you can also barbecue in a section of London Fields.

Highbury Fields residents are fighting back, claiming that air quality measurements taken by them during the barbecue season show the area is more polluted than Central London - see http://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/highbury-fields-has-worse-air...

Actually it was Kings College who were engaged by Islington Council to undertake air quality monitoring for the first weekend of August last year... The report was released under FOI so if you're interested in reading it let me know.
Anyone that flies to Australia occasionally doesn't have a BBQ leg to stand on.
