Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I've been encouraged by more alternatives to fast food and Turkish opening around here but, unfortunately, was disappointed by The Prince (Bounds Green Road) - noisy, only one age group and v limited pop up menu - and Passione and Traditzione (West Green Road). We thought our pasta dishes were very good, albeit small portions, but the waiter (the only one on the floor, it seemed) was surly, service was slow and whoever heard of a restaurant not serving bread? Only garlic bread at £3.99 was on the menu and if you only want a small amount of plain bread you'd have thought a place making pizza would be able to conjure that up, but no. He was adamant they couldn't do it. Will probably go again at some point but very put off in the first 10 minutes by the lack of flexibility on bread and the waiter's unwelcoming manner. What experiences have others had there?

I'm not connected to the restaurant, just a local who was crying out for an alternative to the proliferation of Turkish restaurants (which I also frequent.  i'm just glad it's in West Green Rd - watch  this place - it's only going to get more popular.

I've been to Passione and Traditzione a few times and been impressed by the pasta. Portion size is probably what you'd expect from that style of Italian, although smaller than the more standard ones on Green Lanes. Prices are slightly higher than average for the area, although I suspect that's in part due to the ingredients.

I'd agree that service seems a bit stretched, quite often they only appear to have one waiter on which could be an issue. I haven't been there yet when I've had something else to do after so it hasn't been an issue for me personally but I could see it being annoying.

Yes, I went there a couple of years ago and found the food very basic and service very obsequious, people coming to check 'if everything was ok' about 5 times during the meal.

Clearly the issue of service is very personal.

I've always found the staff at Durazzo genuinely very friendly and never intrusive. In fact I'd go so far as to say they're one of the reasons to visit.

It's a high street pizza and pasta joint and the food is meant to be basic. It fulfils that mission pretty damn well and the food is almost always very tasty and very well cooked. My only cause for negative comment has been one rather generously salted salad on one occasion. 

Durazzo is a very positive addition to Harringay, say I. Viva Durazzo.

I've been to Durazzo a fair few times over the years and don't really remember anything about their service so I assume it must have been fine when I went. 

Agree with Hugh - the service is, for us, a huge part of Durazzo's appeal. We've never found the staff intrusive, quite the opposite. The food is great too.

Wow - yes Durazzo really stands out - great food (for the price - REALLY good) and the service through the many, many times I have been there has been generally really lovely and professional.

Just want to second that. Durazzo are great.

Oh go on ! they are  just trying to get it right - it's not intrusive, you can just say Yes and off they'll go . If you want obsequious try overpriced W1 restaurants  or SWI or similar at twice the price. Durazzo  food is indeed basic , food is fine and well put together , value for money - don't see how anyone  can disagree with that. Its a lovely family chatty atmosphere but of course if that's not for you then fair enough.  I agree with Hugh its a positive presence locally 

I agree with Nick. BYOB but maybe phone ahead to ask about their crustage policy and any fee.

That's a good one. But re Nick's and other comments I'm not talking about not just putting it on the table but not available at all....if you look at any menu you will normally see bread on it somewhere (not just garlic bread). And the irony it is it involves no work.
