It's hard to believe that there won't be a post office within walking distance for local people. It is a lifeline for many, the staff always so friendly and so many transactions going on there. It is a community venue and asset. What are we going to do? Nothing is safe from the chop it seems.

Agree with you one hundred percent, Ruth. The government has sold off Royal Mail, and now it seeking to privatise all the Crown Post Offices. You are right that the Green Lanes Harringay office is a sort of community hub. The staff are knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. I have used it so often, a lot of the staff recognise me. I suspect that if the branch is closed, there will be no replacement/franchise, and then our nearest large(ish) branch will be the "franchise" at WH Smiths in Wood Green.

So very wrong this closure. I've often admired the staff for all their hard work. They deal with all sorts of people and problems, not always to do with the post. Shunting us all up to Wood Green won't replace that. I can't understand how this has happened without us noticing before and not starting a protest. too late now.... Community? Such a buzz word but to many politicians no meaning. Absolutely no humanity here.

Hi Ruth

A joint community and trade union campaign has been running for some considerable time in Crouch End and Muswell Hill which has had some great support, thus far these offices have not closed. We have had public meetings, demonstrations, leafleting and petitions etc. We've had magnificent support from Catherine West MP who has spoken at and attended many campaign meetings. I've attached some pics.

This won't be easy and in my opinion won't be successful without local people getting involved. As in Crouch End and Muswell Hill it would be good to get those interested in getting this up and running together in the next few weeks so if you or anyone else is interested please let me know.

Hi All

Just to let you know that the campaign to Save Harringay Crown Post Office will be collecting signatures outside the office on Green Lanes this Saturday 13th May from 10am-12.30pm. David Lammy will be joining us for a 'meet and greet' in support of the campaign. Please come and say hello or even join us for a while if you can.

Sorry I can't make that to sign the petition. Good David Lammy as MP is going to be there but it would be better if this was a cross Party thing, it's not just about the Labour party. I guess others would like to lend their support to this.

Thanks for your support Ruth. The campaign has not excluded the involvement of anyone, in fact on this and other threads I have asked for anyone who is interested in getting involved to get in touch. We have had a number of stalls outside the Post Office which are open to anyone. We have had a huge amount of support from Labour Party members including Councillors which is perhaps not surprising given the location. I understand from colleagues that in Chingford Ian Duncan Smith has been very vocal against the closure of the local Crown and the Union has welcomed his support - it is unfortunate that he can't persuade his party to intervene! Of course whilst people have differences on many issues there is clearly community unanimity in retaining their local Crown Post Office. I hope this helps and again anyone is welcome to get in touch.

Hi All

Thank you for all your continued support to save Harringay Crown Post Office. It's still standing and so are we! A campaign group has now been set up and we will be outside the Office on Green Lanes on Saturday (22nd July) from 10am - 12.30pm with petitions and leaflets. Please join us if you can, even if it's just to say hello - ALL welcome.
