Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

BGORUG can now fairly confidently confirm that the line will open on Mondays to Fridays ONLY from Monday 27 February. As usual with Network Rail electrification schemes, the project is way behind and weekend and bank holiday closures are likely to continue for some months, possibly for the rest of the year!

Keep an eye out for test runs of the Overground diesel trains, firstly to check all the signalling equipment works (there has been a lot of new track laid) and secondly all the drivers will have to "sign for the road" again, as they have not driven over it for so long and the platforms are being extended requiring a couple of signals to be moved.

I would welcome members' views of where best to publish news of the line, here or on the thread we have had on the Community News forum for some years, or both?

New post/thread like yours above I think, Glenn.  

Reason: a new post shows up on the Home page 'Latest posts in the Forum' panel and generally is visible for a day or so. An addition to an existing thread will only show up in the 'Latest Activity' panel which has a quicker turnover. Better visibility on the Forum 'Newest Discussions' menu too   Also, a new post will be picked up by the weekly Friday Ketchup round-up email, an addition to an existing thread won't be. 

@RidingtheGoblin [link] the Twitter page for BGORUG will keep people more up to date on progress compared to the dedicated Network Rail page. Has some other rail info and a smattering of 'quirkies'.

Post it on Haringey Council's online newsletter: haringey.people@haringey.gov.uk.

And can we have a grand reopening event at the Green Lanes Station when the whole line reopens?

Well, BGORUG has complained so much about the dreadful treatment of the line's passengers during the closure that I can't realy see the Mayor risking turning up to cut a ribbon!

We are also wondering if Network Rail overlooked something at Crouch Hill? This planning notice appeared outside the station in January, I assume the application has been or will be approved.

It's another 'Network Rail has the planning powers but they had to tell the council' situation. The council can only refuse in very limited circumstances.

The planning documents (dated 2012) themselves [link: here and here] show that the bridge itself will be jacked up by 300 mm (one foot). This will require raising the road surface (and pavements) by ramps either side, one of 50m and the other of 25m. This will take some time and the road (which is the W7 bus route) will have to be closed, as far as I can see. Since the bridge structure is not being rebuilt it shouldn't be another Wightman Road, but there are services to be rerouted.

Thanks Gordon, I was hoping you'd dig up the details! It seems that it will be at least another year before all the major engineering work on the line is finished.

Oh great - as Crouch Hill Station is in Islington (just) they put through these works without bothering to tell neighbouring boroughs - if Crouch End Hill is closed for these works where do the buses go?  Just look at the local roads and consider what this means - is it really necessary?
