The BBC Travel Alerts Twitter steam is reporting they have been told by the Fire Brigade that the fire is now out. Apparently a motorbike and petrol pump caught fire. No one was hurt.

Trudy and I watched this drama unfold from our table in hashtag fish and chips just after 6pm.  The great cloud of black smoke billowed up very quickly and was much reduced by the time the first fire engine arrived from the south - presumably from Holloway or Stoke Newington fire station.  It was clearly a vehicle on fire under the canopy and it was good to note that the design of modern fuel stations prevented this turning into an enormous fireball (of the fictitious variety created for films like Rambo etc).  Naturally, cars continued to arrive hoping to shop at Sainsbury's although some helpful souls did start to wave drivers away.

I've been in to fill up since and it appears to be only one pump that was on fire. Lots of smoke damage though.

Sainsburys petrol station closed for repairs all Wed till 0700 Thu. Thu night too. Reopens Fri.
