Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

So I have just seen someone wearing a THAMES WATER reflective jacket walking along the banks of NEW RIVER between Cavendish and Burgoyne kicking every piece of rubbish including lots and lots of plastic bags into New River at 10:05 this morning.

I shouted at the window at him to stop (I didn't swear!) and pick it up and he speeded up!

I'm going to be emailing Thames Water of course.

What's the point of sending someone along the banks to clear up the rubbish if they are going to kick it in the water?

unbelievable.

I live next to the bridge on Pemberton on the school side, a few months ago there were workmen doing maintenance and they left half-bags of sand and cement behind the pillar. This was there for several months, I just noticed it's not there now, I hope this wasn't kicked in the river too.

Well done.

Mark, it happened again!!!! i live on Duckett Road. Two men came to cut the grass today. They left two pieces of rubbish there which i thought they were going to pick up so I asked from the window if they were going to pick them up. One first said "what?" , then not very happily came back . Threw one in the river and pick up the other one (I think it was a shoe). When I pointed out that I sow him throwing the garbage on the river , he looked at me and threw the shoe back on the grass and left. I ran downstairs and asked them to give me their name . they both refused but I took pictures. Not of their face as they both turn their back on me, but surely Thames should know who they are... please feel free to give me a call to discuss. They were arrogant and aggressive ... I am a bit scared to be honest...

Well done Babetti, make sure you mention this incident to the Police and the Thames Water Board.

Big Sigh.

OK so what I did was reply to the person who mailed me before and copy and pasted your message Babettli, and included a link to this page.

I got a call back just now, and it's been passed onto the allocated case person who will get in touch with me again before 25 July.

Watch this space... I will report again.

Such a shame, it's not hard is it.

Best wishes, Mark

thank you!  that was very kind of you. keep me posted.

Kind regards,

Babettli

Glad to hear you got a good response from the Water Board, let's hope they keep there word, Mark !!!!!!! Make sure next time you see any so called " Workmen " you have your Camera handy. Good luck all New River Watchers.

Just to report once more.

Numerous phone calls with Thames Water who are rightly horrified. And a letter.

This is where we left it:

"A meeting is being arranged with the Site Performance Manager, Contracts Manager and his team, to discuss this issue.  Please be assured it will be made very clear to everyone present what is our policy relating to the upkeep of the New River.  He will also remind the teams that residents in your location are vigilant and will expose the people responsible for disposing of rubbish in the river.  We will be visiting the river in the next few days to carry out a clean-up, under supervision. "

I think they are taking it seriously.

Mark

Thanks for keeping up the pressure on this Mark

Well done for sticking with this Mark- a lot of folks would just shrug and move on!

Thank you for following up and for keeping us posted.
my neighbour opposite got drunk the other week and started trimming his hedges at 1.30am on Friday night/Saturday morning. Saw him scoop the lot up and chuck it over the bridge. i suppose the ducks will eat it but still out of order I think!
