Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Hampden Road/New River/Railway site development
I read somewhere that Fairview New Homes have now arranged a public exhibition to view their proposals for the above site. Given the horrific first proposal I am concerned what they have come up with. It seems they are only allowing residents very short windows on viewing this at the Falkland Centre, N. Harringay Primary School, entrance via Frobisher Road, on 11 and 12 April between 4pm and 8pm on both days. I guess they are counting on most people being busy at those times and avoiding lots of visitors by not having a viewing on a weekend.

I think in this picture they've actually left out the taller tower at the back. The one visible is the smaller 10 storey one. Little sleight of hand maybe? Imagine another building almost half as tall again behind it and you get a better idea of the scale of what they're *actually* proposing.

What they've done - naturally - is to choose the only viewpoint from which the nearer 10-storey tower can obscure the taller one behind it. From any other viewpoint, e.g. the Turnpike Lane/Wightman Rd junction, it will stick out. Or up.
And it's worth reflecting that the site is the highest local point to start with, at least east of the railway and north of Effingham Rd. So the buildings are already effectively a few storeys high relative to other housing in that part of the Ladder, and particularly on Turnpike Lane and Hornsey Park Rd. Effectively not 14 storeys maximum, but more like 17-18 judging by the contours on my Ordnance Survey map.

It looks like the site has expanded since the initial application to include the buildings used by the railway depot contractors and the mosque by the new river.

I agree. its is a monster which is why the are limiting these viewings to times where most people are tied up.

14 storeys? So about the same height as Dylan Thomas House, which until 15 years ago stood about 150 metres to the north. Demolished, not due to its height but because of the poor 1960s construction techniques and particularly a failure to understand the potential impact of passing fast trains. Today, no sweat! Height isn't a problem.
Kitchen sizes, views, etc are matters for potential buyers to consider.
