Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

This may not be news to you but not only are Ladder roads affected and Turnpike Lane but the whole of Hornsey Park road is blocked from the junction to Mayes road and beyond. So i turned around and went through Ally Pally to get to Hornsey and the whole of High Street and Priory Road to bottom of Muswell Hill is at a standstill. God knows what rush hour will be like each day and once kids back at school.

That's my rant for the day over.

I wonder if it would be worth alerting the London mayoral candidates to this omnishambles?

They'll probably say it will all be lovely jubbly when Crossrail 2 arrives....

Given they provided the necessary funding for Haringey to get together with the rail network, why not. But it needs to be researched. The horse has bolted. Now, what do we do

The planners for transport (govt/tfl) are playing catch-up with infrastructure projects to cope with London's 8.6 million people (highest since it's 1939 peak) so expect more over the next couple of decades, including mass house building (skyways). We have crossrail 2 to look fwd to as well.

I pity those not on a cycle and those on one, and those without sufficient geographical knowledge who cannot wake up an hour earlier and or circumnavigate some other route. And those who take the bus or tube who become more restricted.  The elderly included. And what about the children?  Yes it is a shambles indeed. This is a challenge and no mistake. 

We live in south Tottenham our son goes to nursery in muswell hill. We spent a good chunk of Easter weekend planning and even practicing different routes. We got up an hour early and sped into muswell hill no problem. On the return we left an hour earlier. The round journey took 3.5 hours with a baby and toddler in tow I echo another comment here, it was hell on earth. There were NO routes that would make that easier as there are very few places to cross the railway line from east to west. The knock on effect rendering square miles all around in total gridlock. Again I say closing ALL of Wightman Road is not ok, it has the effect of removing two rail crossings as one you can not physically use and the approach to the other is so congested you also can not use it. Public transport will not help with our journey and many others are facing the same. Standing traffic for miles around is also dangerous on many other levels. Come on road planners wake up and sort this mess out.

Are there no nurseries in South Tottenham ?

What's that got to do with anything? My child is settled in nursery and until yesterday we could easily accommodate that journey. However my personal circumstances aren't really point in the context of a massive area of north London coming to a standstill, an area that many people need to legitimately traverse each day and where public transport is no help

My point is that the  road blocks aren't really the problem - you are.

In Harringay we suffer from excessive traffic, most of it travelling through, going somewhere else. It's your choice, of course, to go to Muswell Hill twice a day and  I wouldn't dream of trying to stop you. But we Harringay residents have to suffer the congestion, noise and pollution, year in year out.

John D the point works both ways. It's your choice to live in a massively congested area and are now are complaining that is congested. Perhaps Crouch End or Muswell Hill would suit you better? Oh but wait the houses and rents cost more because they have excellent schools and are not congested and thus nicer places to live. We all have to cut our cloth and bringing north london to a standstill because the residents of a major traffic artery have decided they would prefer it without traffic suggests the current chaos lies squarely there. If you don't like the traffic dear, move. And if you can't afford it, well there is your 'choice' if you want to live in London.
