Question about satellite dishes on front of houses
If someone wanted to put up a satellite dish on the front of a house which was actually two separate flats, would they need the permission of the other flat owner? It is a shared outer wall I presume and this shows the side facing the street.
And what if the dish actually encroached into the territory of the other flat even though it's external- does anyone know what the situation is?

I think there would be two seperate issues here. Planning permission would be required under certain circumstances (if there was already a dish in place, if the building was over a certain height or if it was in a conservation area for instance). If you go on to the Planning Portal there is a useful guide if you search for Satellie Dish. I think the encroachment issue would be property law and depend on who was the freeholder of the actual building. Any property lawyers reading this?

I think, for the maintenance of good relations with the other owner, you should avoid encroaching on their territory. I would get pretty huffy if someone put a dish on " my " wall.

John, I felt pretty huffy last night I can tell you when I got home to find this had happened without any warning whatsoever. It was late when I came home so didn't call neighbour but today I need to say something about a lack of consideration for my views on having a big dish on the front of my properly.

I rang my neighbour, she didn't realise it would encroach on my territory and let the guy get on with it without seeing it till it was done.
She will ask the guy to move it lower so it's her fully in her half so that's a result. I will live with that cus it's for her mum really. It's give and take I guess.
No planning permission needed, this is not a conservation area. Thanks folks!

the installation guys don't care. I saw a dish fitted to the washing line post in the middle of the garden lawn. When i tried to ask him he became rude and aggressive. sky

No they don't seem to. I hope this gets moved out of my sight when I'm indoors (though it will be still be highly visible from the outside of course.)
