Group concerned about "aggressive" collection of Council Tax
There was a discussion here ages ago about a group, actually I think it was one man, who had concerns about the way Haringey collects its Council Tax. That is, the methods they use, the letters they send, the speed with which the Summons arrive, the bailiffs etc. Anyone remember this post? the person's name? or the group? Thanks.
It seems unreasonable to issue summons' etc before the end of the financial year. That is being threatened with prison, bailiffs etc, BEFORE the service has been provided. Theoretically someone could have bailiffs at the door well before any rubbish collections have even been missed. IYSWIM.

You can't sue someone for each month's unpaid Council Tax - you'd potentially be suing someone 12 times a year with Court costs added each time....and the Council would grind to a halt if no one paid until the end of the year... do you think the staff wouldn't mind waiting for their salaries until the end of the year? When you pay for any annual bill (insurance policies for example) the annual charge is up front but you are offered the option of paying in instalments. Unlike insurance, which you can suspend for non-payment, if you don't pay, the services still go on costing the Council.

I think you've misunderstood me...I was saying you can't ask staff to forego their wages if people haven't yet paid their Council Tax...what did you think I meant?
