If you've had at least 4 power cuts, each lasting at least 3 hours, you can get £75 from UK Power - easy to show if you called them each time you had a power cut.
They said no to me at first as they said their records showed I didn't qualify - so I asked them to email me their recorded list of power cut times for my property. Their list was wrong and didn't match my record of dates/times - so I argued it and they're now giving me the £75 on a goodwill basis.
Have you got the email address you asked for this info Justine?
I originally called UK Power (0800 316 3105) and said I wanted to claim compensation. So they raised a complaint ref for me. Then Customer Care called (0800 028 4587) to say no compensation as it didn't amount to 4 power cuts for 3 hours each. I said I disagreed and asked them to email me their list of times and dates. Their email came from care@ukpowernetworks.co.uk and then I dealt with it on the phone with Customer Care.
Thanks. Worth dropping them a line as we have had issues too.
Can I ask a favour. I have not been as meticulous as you at keeping notes on times etc. when the power was down (I did not know the onus would be on us to tell them when our power was down...) and I think you have had issues at the same time as me, can you message the details of when your power was down- I can check with my wife if she thinks that is right and at least I will know if the info that comes back from Power Networks is correct...
I know it went down three times last week, and at least once the week before.
Approx as follows - 9 Nov 3.30am to 7am, 9th Nov 7.30pm till late (after 10.30pm), 12 Nov 10.30pm to 1.30am, 16 Nov 11.20am to 2.30pm. There were also power cuts in the area on 13th Nov 4.40pm to 8.10pm, 14th Nov 3.20am to 1.10pm.
Wow, I really should keep notes next time. Thanks. That is great.
A big thanks to Justine. I called the number and they are paying me a curtesy payment of £70. The guy I spoke to was excellent, called me back as he said he would though he did say our power had not been off long enough, etc. The payment was because he saw it was off and on and off and on etc. I did not dispute how long it had been off, and thought £70 was a good result.
If you have not done so, use the info Justine has provided and make your own claim.
If nothing else, if enough folks claim then it will encourage them to fix things properly first time around and not take short cuts.
