How is a homeopath going to help? Take him to the doctors.

Ha. That’s the blunt way of putting it I suppose!

Homeopathy has been debunked thoroughly and conclusively by every scientific study of note. There is simply no evidence that it works at all and it has never beaten a placebo in any rigorous study.

Now in some cases it doesn’t do any harm. If an adult wants to take arnica to help their bruise go away quicker (it won’t help, sorry) then so what.

A child’s health is somewhat different, and persistent coughs *always* require investigation (even though most are, of course, nothing serious)

So this is the slightly longer version of saying take them to a doctor.

I wouldn't gamble my child's health on a placebo. A constant cough needs investigating properly, it could be an indicator of ashtma.
Ok I can see I need to be more 'blunt'
We go to the doctors regularly who gives us noting and tells us it's another virus.
Yes that might be true but the frequency is driving us all nuts and if there is something else that might help we feel it is worth exploring. Hence the request for a good homeopath recommendation.
So if anyone can provide a good homeopath recommendation we would be most grateful. If you just want to tell us to see a doctor please don't bother as that is not what we are asking for.
Young children get between 6 and 12 respiratory infections per year, it's normal and nothing to worry about unless there are other symptoms such as a high fever as your doctor has probably suggested. The cough will most likely pass. Homeopathy really won't help.
Hi, I can reccomend my herbalist/kinesologist he is very good and had been treating me for 2 years where I have seen a. Vast improvement in my health. He is based in Clapham though Timothy Moriss tim@white-tiger.demon.co.uk. I agree with you Dr doesn't always know best especially when you try and seek alternative ways of looking after yourself. If Clapham is too fat I and sure there are closer therapists but he is very good.
Good luck
Do people really still believe in this stuff?
I have, unfortunately, seen services advertised locally. But I'm not going to point you towards them as you might as well just turn on the tap anf benefit from some free water.

While it's true homeopathy is not evidence-based I can appreciate you might find criticism of the idea hard to hear at present. I would strongly suggest psychodynamic therapy as it's now increasingly recognised that many health conditions are psychologically informed. What's key is to gain insight as to the meaning of these symptoms - it sounds as if organic causes have been ruled out. If it's not being understood it could persist. It could be also well worth getting a second opinion but doctors, because of their training, can be insufficiently aware of psychological components of symptoms.

My son used to cough excessively. After lots of different medications the GP said he may have asthma so was referring him to the hospital....she was a stand-in doc and couldn't understand why nothing had been done sooner.  While waiting for appointment she said to try the honey in Holland & Barrett. We did and a huge difference. It's a few years later and he still uses is. Expensive but worth it. Definitely worth trying.

The standby in our house is lemon juice and a big spoonful of honey in a mug topped up with boiling water (allowed to cool down for a young 'un). There has been a fair bit of scientific research into honey and it does seem to have a real anti-tussive effect (it suppresses the urge to cough) though probably no impact on an underlying illness if there is one.

If I ask on HOL for directions to a good pub, will the experts all gang up to send me to a funeral director instead?  More and more this site is metamorphosing into a 19th century village where all the old biddies think it their duty to persuade me they know what's good for me. Nicole was looking for a good psychopath. If, like me, you don't know any, just shut up.

Ha OAE it's a good analogy, thank you. I'm a (very tired) mother of 3 year old and 4 month old baby and anything that will boost my sons health / immunity and help us all to sleep better is worth a shot. I'm not an ignorer of medicine and appreciate young children get sick all the time - it's just if we can do anything to minimise the occurrence of the dreaded cough we feel it's worth exploring. Thank you therefore to the positive suggestions here for combating chest infections. Again if anyone can recommend a good homeopath we'd be interested in details
